Yogyakarta, June 19, 2026 — The Faculty of Performing Arts at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta has once again reaffirmed its role as an international center for arts education, creation, and collaboration through the involvement of 30 students in a collaborative performance titled “GUILTY” at the opening of ARTJOG 2026. The performance took place on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 7:00 PM Western Indonesian Time, at the Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta.
The presence of ISI Yogyakarta students on one of the opening stages of the prestigious contemporary art festival is an important indicator that the art education process at ISI Yogyakarta does not stop in the classroom. Students are encouraged to experience professional artistic practice firsthand, interact with cross-national artists, and understand the dynamics of creating works within the ever-evolving contemporary art ecosystem.
In the performance “GUILTY,” 30 students from the classical vocal student creativity group of the ISI Yogyakarta Faculty of Performing Arts performed with international artists and musicians, namely Monica Lim from Australia, Patrick Hartono, and Morgan May from Australia. This collaboration presented a meeting between classical vocal discipline, experimental music, sound technology, and contemporary artistic ideas.
The involvement of FSP ISI Yogyakarta students in this performance is part of a collaborative initiative supported by Project Eleven and ISI Yogyakarta. The agenda is also related to the Asia Pacific Art Forum (APAF) 2026 Pre-Symposium series, which brings together intellectual, pedagogical, and artistic thoughts from Indonesia and Australia.
The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs III of FSP ISI Yogyakarta stated that this collaboration provides an important learning space for students to enter international-scale professional art practices.

“This collaboration is more than just a performance; it's a learning space for our students to dive into the dialectics between classical vocal traditions and contemporary experimental music, guided by world-class artists,” he said.
According to him, the experience of performing on the ARTJOG stage provides a strategic opportunity for students to broaden their artistic horizons, test their technical skills, and foster collaborative sensitivity. Through this process, students are not only required to have musical skills but also the ability to read contexts, work across cultures, and respond to global artistic developments.
ARTJOG 2026 will take place from June 19 to August 30, 2026, at the Jogja National Museum, under the umbrella theme “Ars Longa: Generatio.” This theme expands the discourse on art sustainability, intergenerational encounters, and the role of art in responding to social and cultural changes. In this context, the participation of ISI Yogyakarta students through “GUILTY” demonstrates how the younger generation of Indonesian artists is actively engaged in broader contemporary art conversations.
For ISI Yogyakarta, this participation holds strategic value in strengthening institutional reputation. As a state higher education institution for the arts offering comprehensive art education, ISI Yogyakarta continuously expands opportunities for student actualization through a network of festivals, residencies, academic forums, and international collaborations. The direct involvement of students in ARTJOG is proof that an art campus can serve as a laboratory for creation, a center for knowledge production, and a connector between higher art education and the global creative ecosystem.

The “GUILTY” collaboration also aligns with the spirit of ISI Yogyakarta's 42nd Anniversary, which carries the theme “Redefining Arts Impact: Art, Humanity, and Creativity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Through this theme, ISI Yogyakarta positions art as a reflective and transformative force in facing the changing times, including technological advancements, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinary creative practices.
With the participation of FSP ISI Yogyakarta students alongside international artists at the opening of ARTJOG 2026, ISI Yogyakarta further solidifies its position as a progressive art higher education institution, open to global collaboration, and committed to nurturing artistic talent ready to contribute at both national and international levels.
Through this agenda, FSP ISI Yogyakarta not only presents performance works but also showcases an art education approach based on experience, collaboration, and the courage to experiment. The presence of students on this prestigious stage is a tangible representation that ISI Yogyakarta continues to evolve as an art campus that connects tradition, innovation, technology, and humanity within one impactful creative ecosystem.
