SIGN

Based on the Decree of the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta Number 2874/PT.44/ UM.00.19/ 1985 dated April 20, 1985, ISI Yogyakarta has a symbol with the form of a harmonious combination of motifs of Dewi Saraswati, Swan and Lotus Flower, which are depicted linearly in a basic form of a circle. The emblem is the result of the creative work of two lecturers of the Faculty of Fine Arts, namely Drs. Subroto Sm., M.Hum. and Drs. Parsuki.

Dewi Saraswati

At the heart of the symbol is the goddess of science and art, in keeping with the Institute's aim to mold artists with scientific attitudes and competencies. As the goddess associated with science and art, Dewi Saraswati carries in each hand:

  1. Lontar as a symbol of the library is a very important source of knowledge for every person who wants to study.
  2. Vina or mandolin which is a symbol of cultural art, placed in the center, contains
    meaning ISI Yogyakarta places the nation's cultural arts as the center of inspiration and activities.
  3. Tasbih or aksamalasymbolizes the infinity of knowledge that humans can demand according to the philosophy of lifelong learning.
  4. Lotus flower is a symbol of purity, a requirement that the Institute seeks to guide every citizen in all their actions.

Lotus flower

Depicted with a five-strand flower crown, two strands at the back and three strands at the front, which means July 23 is the date of the founding of ISI Yogyakarta. Dewi Saraswati is depicted standing upright with her face looking forward, which implies that every citizen is always ready and vigilant in facing the future.

Geese

is the vehicle of Dewi Saraswati which is interpreted as a symbol of wisdom, a quality that is expected to be possessed by every member of the Institute. In this symbol, the swan is depicted as follows:

  1. Wings is the symbol of Pancasila because each wing has five feathers. The two wings expand symmetrically to the right and to the left, meaning that with Pancasila the Institute's citizens continue to develop in a balanced and harmonious manner between body and spirit, science and art, as well as personal and with their service to society and the state.
  2. Head which slightly looks up and looks to the right symbolizes the will of all academicians to always favor truth and virtue, and thus have the courage to be right.
  3. Tasbih or aksamalasymbolizes the infinity of knowledge that humans can demand according to the philosophy of lifelong learning.
  4. Lotus flower The large three-crowned flower is the background of Dewi Saraswati like a praba that surrounds her, meaning that the Institute carries out the Tridharma of Higher Education based on purity and nobility of character. Saraswati's three flower leaves and four hands symbolize the number seven, depicting the seventh month (July) of ISI Yogyakarta's birth month.
