FSRD ISI Yogyakarta Organizes 8th Arcadesa

Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) ISI Yogyakarta organizes ARCADESA 8th (Art, Craft, and Design in Southeast Asia International Symposium) 2024 on September 27 to 28, 2024, at Grand Zuri Malioboro Hotel. ARCADESA was organized to create a cross-country discussion space related to art, craft and design.The symposium was attended by lecturers, students, researchers and artists in the fields of art, craft, design in the country and abroad. Arcadesa was made even more interesting by presenting speakers from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, China and of course Indonesia.

ARCADESA (Art, Craft, and Design in South East Asia) is an international symposium organized to facilitate discussions on the role of art, craft, and design in solving global challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and ecosystem degradation. The symposium affirmed that art is capable of raising awareness and influencing behavioral and policy changes, especially in relation to environmental balance and human well-being. ARCADESA also involves cross-disciplinary collaborations from various domestic and international art institutions, focusing on how creativity can be used to drive social and environmental transformation, as well as encouraging the involvement of local communities in sustainability advocacy.

This year's ARCADESA was opened by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. In his speech, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. The ARCADESA 2024 International Symposium that we are organizing today is a concrete effort to explore the potential of art and design as a transformative force capable of inspiring positive change. With the theme "The Transformative Power of Art: Fostering Environmental Awareness and Human Wellbeing through Creative Collaboration," we are committed to contributing to building a better world.

Next year ARCADESA will be attended by more participants from abroad. This year we managed to present speakers from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, China and next year we hope to be able to present speakers from Vietnam and Europe, said Dr. Yulriawan Dafri, M.Hum. as Chair of the ARCADESA Committee.
