Opening of Jogja International Disability Arts Biennale 2021 Exhibition at R.J Katamsi Gallery

On Friday, October 18, 2021, the opening ceremony of the Jogja International Disability Arts Biennale 2021 Exhibition was held at the R.J. Katamsi Gallery, ISI Yogyakarta. This exhibition for disabled artists will be held from October 18 to 30, 2021. The opening was attended by the Rector and the leadership of ISI Yogyakarta, the Regent of Bantul, Mrs. Yeni Wahid, the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga and other invited guests. This exhibition is held offline by implementing strict health protocols. To enter the R.J. Katamsi Gallery and see the collection on display, visitors are required to wash their hands, wear a mask and keep their distance while in the gallery.

The opening procession began with a prayer and singing the Indoensia Raya song. The event continued with remarks from the chairman of the committee, remarks from the Director of the R.J. Katamsi Gallery ISI Yogyakarta, remarks from the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, remarks from the Regent of Bantul, remarks from Mrs. Yeni Wahid and the handover of souvenirs from Mrs. Yeni Wahid from the committee chairman and the Director of the R.J. Katamsi Gallery. The event ended with the opening of the exhibition by Mrs. Yeni Wahid and watching the exhibition with invited guests.

The Jogja International Disability Arts Biennale 2021 exhibition is an exhibition that exhibits the artworks of disabled artists from various countries. This difable art exhibition is planned to be held every 2 years. The disabled artists participating in this international exhibition come from Asian, African, American and European countries. In this exhibition, 120 artworks and digital preparations from disabled artists from various countries are exhibited. The organization of this exhibition is an effort to provide a space that allows disabled artists to showcase their artworks.

In 2021, the Jogja International Disability Arts Biennale Exhibition took the theme "Rupa Rima". This theme was chosen to mark the diversity and freedom in visual expression in terms of style, technique, and ideas of the participants in this exhibition. Like a rhyme, this exhibition that repeats itself in diversity and freedom will try to find its rhythm and beauty in visual language. The diversity of techniques, styles, ages, cultures, education and disabilities are brought together in one exhibition as a form of sharing knowledge in the field of fine arts. The exhibition aims to establish harmony and synergy in the future for mutual progress through art for disabled artists. Harmony and synergy that will encourage the independence of disabled artists.
