ISI Yogyakarta Strengthens Strategic Collaboration with UiTM Malaysia

In an effort to strengthen the position of Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta in the international arena, especially in increasing global recognition, contributing to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, and developing an inclusive and impactful academic ecosystem, ISI Yogyakarta continues to expand its strategic collaboration network with reputable art universities. One of these important steps was realized through a cooperation visit to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 09.00-11.30 Malaysian time.

UiTM, as one of the leading research universities in Malaysia with strengths in the fields of art, design, film and music, is a strategic partner for ISI Yogyakarta in encouraging academic quality, increasing reputable publications, and creating international programs that are relevant to global needs.

The delegation of ISI Yogyakarta was led by Rector Dr. Irwandi, S.Sn., M.Sn., accompanied by Dean of FSRD Muhamad Sholahuddin, S.Sn., M.T.; Vice Dean for Academic Affairs FSRD Dr. I Gede Arya Sucitra, S.Sn., M.A.; Dean of FSMR Dr. Edial Rusli, SE, M.Sn.; Vice Dean for Academic Affairs FSMR Arif Sulistiyono, M.Sn.; and Cooperation Staff Amirul Husna.

The group was received by Professor Ts. Dr. Asmah Awal, Director of Research Nexus UiTM (ReNeU) along with relevant faculty leaders, including Dean of Faculty of Music Professor Dr. Tazul Izan Tajuddin, Associate Professor Dr. Wan Aida Wan Yahaya (Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation), Associate Professor Dr. Nurhazlina Husin (Academy of Language Studies), and Assoc. Dr. Sharifah Faizah Syed Mohammed (Faculty of Music). Prof. Dr. Sharifah Faizah Syed Mohammed (Faculty of Music). The presence of these cross-faculty leaders emphasizes UiTM's seriousness in building long-term collaboration with ISI Yogyakarta.

In the discussion session, the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta emphasized three strategic issues that are in line with the direction of the development of national and global art universities, namely: strengthening the inclusiveness of universities, downstreaming research work, and internationalization of research results and artistic creativity. These three focuses are not only relevant to the fulfillment of performance indicators of art universities in Indonesia, but also have a direct impact on strengthening the reputation of institutions at the international level through publication collaboration, joint research productivity, and academic mobility.

UiTM responded enthusiastically, and the discussion then led to several priority programs to be developed jointly, namely:

  • Student exchange program to enhance students' global experience;
  • Joint research and matching grant schemes between ISI Yogyakarta and UiTM researchers, which have the potential to contribute to reputable international publications and academic innovation;
  • Collaborative art festivals and international workshops, which will broaden the exposure of the creativity of students and lecturers from both institutions.

This visit is an important foundation in ISI Yogyakarta's efforts to strengthen global competitiveness, recognition, and contribution as a leading arts university in Indonesia. By expanding cooperation oriented towards quality, impact, and internationalization, ISI Yogyakarta continues to demonstrate its commitment to become an arts campus that not only excels academically, but also makes a real contribution to society and the world.- amirul husna
