ISI Yogyakarta held a national seminar with the theme "The Excellence of Art in Restoring Life" on Monday, July 25, 2022. This national seminar was held online using the Zoom Meeting application and was attended by more than 300 participants. The speakers in this seminar included Handoko Hendroyono, Dr. Suastiwi, M.Des., and Ayu Utami. This online seminar will also be presented by Mr. Tedi Bharata (Deputy for Human Resources, Technology and Information, Ministry of BUMN) as the keynote speaker and moderated by Dr. Suwarno Wisetrotomo, M.Hum.
The seminar with the theme "The Excellence of Art in Restoring Life" was held as part of ISI Yogyakarta's 38th anniversary agenda. This national seminar complements the activities of the senate procession, exhibitions and performances that have been held in order to commemorate the 38th Anniversary of ISI Yogyakarta.
The theme of ISI Yogyakarta's 38th Anniversary is "Excellence in the Arts for Recovery Life" is a response to the contextual conditions of the art world and the world of art colleges in the post-Covid-19 pandemic, as conveyed by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, in his remarks to open this national seminar. Furthermore, he said that the theme was in accordance with government policy to carry out recovery nationally with a focus on the economy and the competitive value of human resources. The theme "Arts Excellence for Recovery Life" is also in line with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology's policy of "Lead the Recovery, Move for Free Learning".
After the speech delivered by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, the seminar continued with the main event of the 38th Anniversary of ISI Yogyakarta national seminar. The event began with a presentation from the key note speaker Mr. Tedi Bharata who said that the theme of the Anniversary of ISI Yogyakarta has a deep meaning because Art is one of the means to improve the quality of life. recovery life after the pandemic. In his presentation, he also said that the Ministry of SOEs hopes to become a showcase for human cultural arts. M Blok and Sarinah are examples of how SOEs play a role in creating places that provide opportunities for artists to display art and perform. The Ministry of SOEs allows airports to be used as art showcases because they are widely accessed by foreign and domestic tourists.
The community and the government as policy makers must also take a stand in favor of local brands. The statement was delivered by the first speaker, Handoko Hendroyono in the title of the presentation "Local is More Vocal". Currently, local brands, local stories, puppets, and Indonesian cultural art products are the main attraction for investors or the government to invest or sponsor various activities that emphasize locality.
The second speaker, Dr. Suastiwi, M.Des. delivered a presentation entitled "Local Wisdom and Ecological Literacy in Art Higher Education: Learning after the Covid-19 Pandemic". In this presentation, the speaker described how local wisdom has proven to be reliable in solving emergency problems such as Covid-19. Ecological literacy is also important in sustainable development that favors the development of arts and culture.
The seminar was closed by Ayu Utami's presentation as the last speaker. Ayu Utami delivered a presentation with the same title as ISI Yogyakarta's 38th Anniversary theme "The Excellence of Art in Life Recovery". In her presentation, she also believes that art can be used as a means of restoring life.
