YOGYAKARTA — The Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta held an audience with the National Narcotics Agency of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province (BNNP DIY) on Monday, June 15, 2026. This audience discussed the optimization of rehabilitation services through art therapy as part of a joint effort to provide more humane, creative, and sustainable recovery approaches for the community.
The audience was attended by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn., the leadership of ISI Yogyakarta, and the Head of BNNP DIY, Kombes Pol. Faried Zulkarnaen, S.I.K., along with the staff of BNNP DIY. This meeting served as a space to strengthen synergy between the art higher education institution and state agencies in supporting the handling of drug-related issues, particularly in the aspect of rehabilitation.
The Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn., stated that ISI Yogyakarta is ready to take an active role in supporting rehabilitation services through an artistic approach. According to him, art has the power to open up spaces for expression, build self-awareness, and support the recovery process in a way that touches the human side more deeply.
“ISI Yogyakarta is ready to contribute to the creation of optimal rehabilitation services and is ready to collaborate for a better generation,” said the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta.
He affirmed that the contributions of art colleges are not limited to education and creation of works, but can also be expanded to social, humanitarian, and community recovery efforts. Through art therapy, ISI Yogyakarta can offer a creativity-based approach that is relevant for strengthening rehabilitation services.
Meanwhile, the Head of BNNP DIY, Police Commissioner Kombes Pol. Faried Zulkarnaen, S.I.K., in his remarks stated that efforts to combat drugs cannot be carried out by one party alone. According to him, the problem of narcotics is a shared responsibility that requires the involvement of various elements, including universities, communities, families, and the wider public.
“Fighting drugs is everyone's job,” said Kombes Pol. Faried Zulkarnaen.
BNNP DIY assesses that art therapy approaches have significant potential in supporting the rehabilitation process. Art can be a medium of recovery that helps rehabilitation participants express experiences, manage emotions, build self-confidence, and rediscover a more positive direction in life.
Cooperation between BNNP DIY and ISI Yogyakarta has been ongoing for a long time and is considered necessary to be continuously strengthened to provide a more optimal impact. Through this audience, both institutions affirmed their commitment to continue synergizing in developing adaptive, creative rehabilitation methods that are in line with community needs.
The optimization of rehabilitation services through art therapy also aligns with the role of ISI Yogyakarta as an art higher education institution that not only produces artists and academics but also makes a tangible contribution to solving social problems. Art is positioned as a medium for transformation, healing, and strengthening human values.
Through this collaboration, ISI Yogyakarta and BNNP DIY hope that rehabilitation services can become stronger, more inclusive, and impactful. The synergy between the art world and rehabilitation services is expected to pave the way for the birth of more humane recovery models, while also being a joint contribution in building a healthy, productive generation free from drug abuse.
