ISI Yogyakarta International Expansion, Indonesian Art Increasingly Valued in Europe

YOGYAKARTA, April 27, 2026 — The Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta continues to strengthen its internationalization efforts through a working visit to Hungary. The ISI Yogyakarta delegation was led by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Alumni, Dr. Muhammad Kholid Arif Rozaq, S.Hut., M.M., with the aim of expanding academic, artistic, and cultural cooperation networks on a global scale.

During the visit, the ISI Yogyakarta delegation participated in academic activities of International Week at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts/HUFA, Budapest, as well as academic activities at Eszterházy Károly Catholic University/EKCU, Eger. The presence of ISI Yogyakarta in this international academic forum is part of the institution's efforts to open up broader collaborative opportunities in the fields of education, academic exchange, art research development, and cultural diplomacy.

In addition to attending academic agendas, the ISI Yogyakarta delegation also carried out a work document exchange for cooperation between ISI Yogyakarta and Budapest Metropolitan University/METU. This cooperation is an important strengthening in building sustainable institutional relations between Indonesian and Hungarian art higher education institutions.

The Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Alumni of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Muhammad Kholid Arif Rozaq, stated that this visit is a strategic step to expand ISI Yogyakarta's position on the international arts education map.

“ISI Yogyakarta has a responsibility to continue presenting Indonesian art education in global conversations. Through cooperation with universities in Hungary, we want to open more opportunities for academic collaboration, student and faculty mobility, and cross-cultural art knowledge exchange,” he said.

ISI Yogyakarta's efforts to strengthen its international network are also supported by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Hungary. The Indonesian Ambassador welcomed ISI Yogyakarta's steps in strengthening people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Hungary through art education cooperation that has been initiated since 2019.

The support affirms that art and higher education play an important role in cultural diplomacy. Through inter-institutional relationships in education, cooperation between Indonesia and Hungary not only operates at a formal level but also touches upon the exchange of ideas, creativity, cultural values, and inter-societal relations.

This working visit also demonstrates ISI Yogyakarta's commitment as the largest art higher education institution in Indonesia to continuously expand its international network. Through cooperation with various art and higher education institutions in Europe, ISI Yogyakarta strengthens its reputation as an active, open, and impactful art campus in the development of global art, culture, and education.

As international cooperation continues to expand, ISI Yogyakarta is expected to provide more opportunities for its academic community to participate in global forums, broaden their academic experiences, and showcase the richness of Indonesian art and culture on the world stage.
