The cool atmosphere of the slopes of Mount Ijen will come alive with the presence of an outdoor visual art exhibition titled "FORA FAUNA: Zoo Art" which was held at Gandrung Terakota Park - Jiwa Jawa Ijen Resort, Banyuwangi, started August 9 to September 9, 2025. The exhibition is curated by Mikke Susanto and features three-dimensional sculptures and installations by lecturers and alumni of Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, along with a number of national artists.
Participating artists include Arlan Kamil, Arif Suharson, Albertho Wanma, Budi Hartono, Butet Kartarejasa, Dunadi, Daruslan, Endro Tri Susanto, Heru Siswanto, Hedi Hariyanto, Komroden Haro, M. Sholahudin et al., Nor Jayadi, Lutse Lambert DM, Dwita Anja Asmara, Purjito, and Timbul Raharjo. Their works are placed in an open space surrounded by tropical forest landscapes, mountain mist, and the fresh air of Ijen, creating an art experience that is at one with nature.
Symbolically, "FORA FAUNA" does not only display representations of fauna, but invites visitors to reflect on the threats to ecosystems, the relationship between humans and animals, and the social and political messages contained behind the animal world. Each work becomes a "voice" that reminds us of the hidden, neglected, and even endangered existence of animals.
As an "art zoo," the exhibition is designed to raise public awareness of the sustainability of the forest and all that it contains. By walking among the works, visitors are invited to re-experience the spiritual, ecological and emotional bond between humans and fauna.
"FORA FAUNA" is a space for imagination as well as a forum for dialog-for artists, animal lovers, and the public-to mark the existence, nurture hope, and maintain the balance of nature through the medium of art.
