ISI Yogyakarta Presents Two Deputy Ministers at the National Seminar "Art and Diplomacy"

ISI Yogyakarta presented two Deputy Ministers at the National Seminar with the theme "Art & Diplomacy: Strengthening the Art Network, Realizing a World Class University" held on Tuesday, July 08, 2025 at the Concert Hall ISI Yogyakarta. The two Deputy Ministers who attended as keynote speakers at this seminar were Prof. Stella Christie, Ph.D. (Deputy Minister of Education and Science of RI) and H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, S.H., LL.M. (Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of RI). The national seminar is a series of activities organized in order to celebrate the 41st Anniversary of ISI Yogyakarta.  

"Art and Diplomacy was chosen as the theme of the national seminar as a representation of ISI Yogyakarta's determination to continue to connect with various stakeholders so as to realize ISI Yogyakarta as a world class university in the field of art", said Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. when giving a speech. Furthermore, the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta said, to realize this predicate, ISI Yogyakarta has set milestones in 2028 to become a leading university in Southeast Asia, in 2038 at the Asian level and in 2045 to become a world class university.

The first keynote speaker, H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, S.H., LL.M. delivered a speech on how to optimize art and cultural assets for diplomacy which was delivered through video.

"We must build a sustainable Indonesian cultural campaign mechanism at the global level. I challenge ISI Yogyakarta to develop a structured concept of cultural diplomacy that can reach and be easily understood by the world community," he said.

On the same occasion, Prof. Stella Christie, Ph.D. delivered a speech entitled "Cultural Diplomacy and Higher Education for the Arts in Indonesia". She said that art has an important role in nation building, including in encouraging economic growth, science and technology development.

"Indonesia has extraordinary artistic and cultural wealth that can be a global diplomatic force. The structure of recognition from partners and other countries must be built through universities as the vanguard of cultural diplomacy," he said.

After the speeches from the two keynote speakers, the national seminar continued with presentations from Helly Minarti, Ph.D. (Art Researcher, FOUNDER of a collaborative research platform on choreography) on "The History and Effects of the Dissemination of Indonesian Culture-Art" and Kurniawan Saputro, Ph.D. (Researcher & Postgraduate Teaching Staff of ISI Yogyakarta) delivered material related to "Problems of Art Universities in the Context of Cultural Diplomacy".

The presentation of the two speakers was moderated by Dr. Mikke Susanto, M.A., (Curator and Lecturer of ISI Yogyakarta) who was able to guide the event interestingly so that until the end of the event, ISI Yogyakarta Concert Hall was filled with seminar participants who listened to the speeches of the keynote speaker and the exposure of the speakers.
