The Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta will hold a musical theater performance entitled Niskala Nawasena on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 7:30 pm at the Art Laboratory, ISI Yogyakarta campus, Jl. Parangtritis KM 6.5 Sewon Bantul. This performance was held in order to enliven the 39th Anniversary of ISI Yogyakarta. As a form of collaboration between lecturers and students between study programs that combines elements of Theater, Dance, Ethnic Music, Modern Music, Puppetry, and Animation.
Niskala Nawasena tells the story of the struggle of young people to reclaim the kingdom of Dwipantara after it was coup d'état by the rebels under the leadership of Ahengkara. King Adhikara who was expelled to the forest had to fight with an arrow wound in his chest. Meanwhile, Ratu Buana is held hostage in the palace as a prisoner. Niskala organizes a strategy with the remaining troops to reclaim sovereignty.
The story of Niskala Nawasena is a metaphor for the problems of the Indonesian nation today. King Adhikara as an illustration of the mandate of independence continues to be threatened by the disturbance of division, radicalism, multiple crises, and moral decadence depicted by the antagonistic figure of Ahengkara. If these threats continue, then it is not impossible that this country will be divided into fragmented parts like the description of Ratu Buana who became Ahengkara's prisoner. So resistance is needed to save the nation from all destruction. Niskala is the golden generation, the young heirs of the nation leading the resistance with the determination to reclaim true independence. Because all the young people of this nation are Niskala: Strong in spirit, and Nawasena: with a view to a bright future.
