Yogyakarta, May 5, 2026— Argya Gavra Aldinathan, a recent graduate of the Music Study Program, Faculty of Performing Arts, Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, was invited as a resource person for a podcast organized by the Bantul Regency General Election Commission. Argya's participation in the forum was a form of appreciation for his thesis research, which examined the 2024 Bantul Regional Election Jingle from a musicological perspective.
In the podcast, Argya shared the results of his academic study on how political jingles not only function as promotional media or reminders of election stages, but can also be read as musical works that have structure, messages, and communicative functions. Argya's research examined the musical aspects of the jingles, from song structure, melodic elements, and lyrics, to their role as a socialization medium to the public.
Through a musicological approach, Argya examines the relationship between music and socio-political contexts, particularly in the holding of regional elections in Bantul Regency. The study shows that music plays a strategic role in building the closeness of public messages with the community. In the context of general elections, jingles can be an effective communication medium because they can present messages in a lighter, more memorable, and relatable way to people's daily lives.
Argya's presence as a speaker for the KPU (General Election Commission) Bantul Regency podcast emphasizes that the scholarly work of art students does not merely remain as academic documents but can contribute tangibly to public institutions and society. Thesis research originating from the field of music is capable of opening cross-sectoral dialogue, particularly between art higher education institutions and election organizing institutions.
For ISI Yogyakarta, this achievement is proof that the art education process developed within the campus environment is not only oriented towards creation and performance, but also towards strengthening studies, research, and academic contributions to current issues. The Music Study Program of the Performing Arts Faculty at ISI Yogyakarta continues to encourage students to understand music as an artistic practice as well as an object of scientific study that is interconnected with social, cultural, and public life dynamics.
The involvement of recent alumni from ISI Yogyakarta in the discussion forum organized by the Bantul Regency General Election Commission also demonstrates the relevance of art education in addressing contemporary societal needs. Music, in this context, is understood not only as an aesthetic work but also as a medium for communication, education, and public participation.
Through these achievements, ISI Yogyakarta further solidifies its role as an art higher education institution that produces creative, critical graduates capable of contributing across fields. Argya's presence on the KPU Bantul podcast serves as a tangible example of how art research can add value to public institutions and strengthen ISI Yogyakarta's position as a center for art education, creation, and study that is relevant to the times.
