FSRD ISI Yogyakarta Strengthens Global Reputation through International Accreditation, QS WUR, and the Opening of a Master's Degree in Design

YOGYAKARTA, April 13, 2026 — The Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta has solidified its position as a leading institution for art and design education through a series of strategic achievements throughout 2025, serving as a crucial foundation for 2026. The three most significant accomplishments include obtaining FIBAA international accreditation for six study programs, the inclusion of FSRD ISI Yogyakarta within the 151–200 world ranking cluster in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for Art & Design, and the establishment of the Master's Program in Design, ready to welcome new students in the Fall Semester of 2026/2027.

Six study programs that have successfully achieved international accreditation from FIBAA Germany are Interior Design, Visual Communication Design, Product Design, Fine Arts, Crafts, and Art Management. This achievement signifies that the quality of education provided by FSRD ISI Yogyakarta has received global recognition. At the same time, FSRD ISI Yogyakarta's entry into the world's elite ranks for Art & Design further strengthens the institution's competitiveness as a representative of Indonesian higher art education on the international stage.

The Dean of FSRD ISI Yogyakarta, Muhamad Sholahuddin, S.Sn., M.T., emphasized that this achievement is not merely a statistical figure but a manifestation of intellectual fortitude, aesthetic depth, and FSRD's consistency in building a globally relevant discourse in fine arts and design. According to him, this international recognition also solidifies FSRD ISI Yogyakarta's position on the world map of art and design education, while demonstrating that an approach combining the richness of local genius with contemporary methodology has universal relevance.

Furthermore, achievements in the QS WUR 2026 are intended to be the foundation for the future academic transformation of FSRD ISI Yogyakarta. The faculty has planned to strengthen its digital laboratories, develop research based on the integration of IT and arts, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration between fine arts, design, and data science. In the higher education landscape currently facing the acceleration of artificial intelligence, FSRD ISI Yogyakarta positions technology not as a threat to creativity, but as a new space to broaden horizons for creation, research, and innovation.

This developmental direction aligns with FSRD ISI Yogyakarta's vision to become a transdisciplinary institution that is globally competitive without losing its cultural sovereignty, and has a tangible impact on the creative industry and society. FSRD also reaffirms its commitment to producing graduates who are technologically literate, adaptive to the global market, and possess critical and ethical sensitivity in responding to issues such as copyright, artwork authentication, and humanity amidst the automation of the creative industry.

The opening of the Master's Program in Design in the 2026/2027 academic year is the next strategic step. This program is positioned as a response to public demand for advanced design education in Yogyakarta, while also expanding ISI Yogyakarta's role in preparing superior creative resources capable of meeting the challenges of the times. With these achievements and development directions, the FSRD of ISI Yogyakarta not only strengthens its institutional reputation but also reinforces its contribution to shaping the future of fine arts and design, both at the national and global levels.
