27 ISI Yogyakarta Lecturers' Proposals Approved for 2026 Kemdikdiksatek Funding, Emphasize Artistic Competitiveness for Impactful Solutions

Yogyakarta, April 10, 2026—The Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta has once again achieved a strategic milestone at the national level. Based on the 2026 Research and Development funding results announced by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, a total of 27 proposals from ISI Yogyakarta lecturers have been successfully funded. This achievement comprises 14 proposals for Research Programs, 12 proposals for Community Service Programs, and 1 proposal for Priority Research Commercialization Programs.

Nationally, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) announced funding aimed at strengthening campus research so that it doesn't stop at academic achievements, but also produces real-world solutions relevant to society, local governments, industry, and strengthening the nation's competitiveness.

For ISI Yogyakarta, this success is not just a number. The approval of 27 proposals shows that the strength of an art university lies not only in the creation of works, but also in its ability to present knowledge, innovation, and empowering models that have a direct impact. The themes of the funded proposals demonstrate the breadth of contributions from ISI Yogyakarta lecturers, ranging from the development of recording media, animation, interior design, music therapy, visual culture, crafts, digital games, to the strengthening of traditional arts and community empowerment.

The Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn., stated that this achievement marks the strengthening capacity of ISI Yogyakarta in presenting art-based research and community service that is relevant to community needs. “This success shows that art, culture, design, and media are not only spaces for academic expression, but also sources of knowledge, innovation, and solutions for real-world problems. We interpret this funding as a mandate to strengthen the quality of research, expand collaboration, and ensure that the work and thoughts of the academic community at ISI Yogyakarta have a broader impact on the community, region, and nation,” he said.

The funded themes not only focus on artistic creation but also encompass issues of mental health, child education, bullying prevention, digital literacy, elderly resilience in the face of disasters, disability empowerment, tourist village development, strengthening creative MSMEs, and the preservation of traditional arts through innovative approaches. This direction aligns with the funding policies of Kemdikdisrek, which emphasize research and development as concrete solutions for the strategic problems of society, local governments, and industry.

In the Research Program scheme, lecturers from ISI Yogyakarta who passed demonstrated cross-disciplinary research strengths, ranging from animation, interior design, visual communication design, crafts, art governance, music education, to cultural studies. Several outstanding titles showed a strong orientation towards learning innovation, cultural heritage preservation, and the development of more inclusive and adaptive media and spaces.

Meanwhile, in the Community Service Program, the dominance of proposals that passed the Nusantara Art Innovation Program scheme confirms the distinctive character of ISI Yogyakarta as an art campus capable of transforming traditional richness into vibrant empowerment practices within the community. The various successful titles demonstrate efforts to strengthen traditional arts, cross-medium collaborations, empowerment of disabled communities, craft innovation, culture-based tourism development, and the rebranding of art spaces based on local wisdom.

Regarding the Priority Research Commercialization scheme, ISI Yogyakarta also recorded significant achievements through a proposal that promotes the strengthening of intellectual property based on games and videos as a digital literacy ecosystem. The presence of this commercialization proposal signifies that innovations born from higher education in the arts have great potential for further development towards wider utilization.
