ISI Yogyakarta Rector Inaugurates New Professor of Theater

ISI Yogyakarta held an Open Senate Session in order to inaugurate professors on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Concert Hall ISI Yogyakarta at 10.00 - 12.00 WIB. The Senate session was chaired by the Chairperson of the ISI Yogyakarta Senate Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. and was held in order to inaugurate a new professor of theater, Prof. Dr. Drs. Nur Sahid, M.Hum. With this inauguration, ISI Yogyakarta currently has a Professor degree with arts and culture competence. The number of professors further increases ISI Yogyakarta's bargaining position in competition with other universities and becomes a magnet for partners who want to work with ISI Yogyakarta.

According to Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. as Rector and Chair of the ISI Yogyakarta Senate, the inauguration of this professor is a reflection of his hard work, Prof.Dr. Drs. Nur Sahid, M.Hum. as a lecturer. A title that shows how hard he works in carrying out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education activities, namely teaching, conducting research and community service. Therefore, this achievement is not only a personal achievement, but an achievement of ISI Yogyakarta, as well as a source of motivation for ISI Yogyakarta lecturers. Hopefully more and more lecturers can follow to achieve the Academic Position of Professor.

At this open senate session, Prof. Dr. Drs. Nur Sahid, M.Hum delivered a speech entitled "Semiotics of Theater as a Comprehensive Approach to Theater Interpretation". This speech highlighted the importance of semiotic approach in understanding drama and theater. Semiotics is a core discipline that not only studies signs, but also understands their role in creating and transmitting meaning, both in art, education, and the life of the wider community. Semiotics has developed into a science that discusses the process of signs (semiosis), communication, and symbols in various social and cultural contexts. In Indonesia, semiotics manifests in daily life through traditions, symbols and signs, such as in the lives of Indigenous people who are rich in symbolic meanings, from philosophical axes to cultural rituals.

The extraordinary achievement of Prof. Dr. Nur Sahid, M.Hum. also implies great responsibility. The academic position of Professor is a mandate to continue to maintain scientific integrity, broaden horizons, and have a real positive impact on society. Our society views a professor as a role model, so a Professor is expected not only to be a leader in the development of science, but also a role model in guarding the dignity, ethics and academic and non-academic morals with wisdom so as to be able to build a generation that is intelligent, critical, and characterized.
