ISI Yogyakarta Painting Lecturer Organizes Open Studio and Fine Art Exhibition "Riwayat"

Lecturers of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, ISI Yogyakarta held an Open Studio opening and art exhibition entitled "Riwayat" on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Fadjar Sidik Gallery, at 16.00 WIB until completion. Lecturers who participated in the open study and exhibition included Amir Hamzah, Deni Junaedi, I Gede Arya Sucitra, M. Agus Burhan, Setyo Priyo Nugroho, Wiyono and Y. F. Yudhistira.

The Open Studio and fine art exhibition "Riwayat" were opened by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. The opening of the exhibition and Open Studio was attended by the Rector, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts ISI Yogyakarta, Assistant Dean III of the Faculty of Performing Arts, students, artists in Yogyakarta and invited guests. This activity was organized to show the public the creative process and works produced by ISI Yogyakarta Painting lecturers.

Open Studio is a concept or activity in the art world that is usually conducted in an academic environment or art studio. In an Open Studio, artists or art students show their creative process openly to the public or fellow artists. This can be in the form of presentations of works in progress, discussions about ideas and techniques used, as well as sharing experiences or knowledge about art.

According to the curator of the exhibition and open studio, Satrio Hari Wicaksono, "This Open Studio is actually the initiation of painting lecturers to build a creative atmosphere of art creation for painting lecturers and this creative process has been carried out internally from February 2024". He further said that the purpose of this activity is to motivate, provide additional provision outside the classroom, and share experiences in constructing themes and producing artworks as part of the academic process by recognizing and understanding the process of work carried out by lecturers. However, it is unfortunate if this activity is only for internal parties, so then the Pure Art Department enlarges the scale of this activity and shares it with the public more broadly.

The implementation of this Open Study is in line with the spirit of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka program initiated by the Ministry, as stated by Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. as Rector of ISI Yogyakarta when giving a speech. The spirit of Merdeka Belajar which encourages students to gain experience outside the classroom is certainly the same as the spirit of organizing Open Studies which provides real experience outside the classroom for students.
