"Creative Movement Organic Movement" with Karenne Koo, Guest Lecturer from Arizona, USA

The search and development of movement using this method will improve students' ability to better recognize their own movement, as well as generate movement sensitivity in response to the surrounding environment.

Karenne Koo has developed this method in colleges and art communities in America. And in Southeast Asia the method has been introduced in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia. Besides being developed in art communities and art academics, Karenne has also implemented the method in special communities such as people with special needs: the disabled, the mentally disabled, and "marginalized" communities. It is this success in applying creative movement to various community groups that encourages Karenne to continue developing the method, in the hope that more people will be able to enjoy and participate in dance activities.

Karenne's presence in Yogyakarta is not the first time, but this is her 3rd visit. In 2015 Karenne together with Annie Tucker began a collaboration with ISI Yogyakarta by inviting students as volunteer in activities carried out at a school for the disabled in Yogyakarta. Furthermore, in 2017 Mettler Studio in Arizona gave an invitation to lecturers and several students to take part in a training program for teachers (teacher training) to Arizona. In 2018 Karenne returned to Yogyakarta for a short workshop.

On this visit, Karenne will teach the method developed by Barbara Mettler intensively from Feb 14 - Feb 23, 2020 at ISI Yogyakarta.

In addition to teaching at ISI Yogyakarta, Karenne together with ISI Yogyakarta lecturers and students will provide workshops in community groups and art studios in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas. This activity is also a form of activity for ISI Yogyakarta lecturers and students in the field of community service.
