Visual Communication Design Students Create Design Project with Stunting Theme through Teaching Practitioner Program

The Visual Communication Design (DKV) Study Program at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta held a Teaching Practitioner program with the theme "Stunting". This program is part of the Design Project course, which is designed to integrate industry insights and social issues into the learning process. Through the program, which was held on 9,10,11 and 13 September, students not only honed their design skills, but also contributed to educating the public about one of the pressing national health issues.

Presenting Subiyantoro, a professional graphic designer with experience in social campaigns, this program provides students with a briefing on how to develop effective visual communication designs to deliver educational messages about stunting. In the learning process, students are invited to understand stunting as a complex public health issue and how design can be a tool to raise awareness and encourage behavior change.

The theme of stunting was chosen because it is not only a nutritional problem, but also has an impact on the future of the nation's generation. Therefore, we want students to understand the importance of delivering strong visual messages that can reach various groups. The learning stages began with an introductory session on stunting, where students were provided with data and information on the condition of stunting in Indonesia. After that, students are divided into groups and asked to design a design project that includes various media, such as posters, infographics, animated videos, and social media.

Students then presented their ideas and concepts.
This approach aims to hone students' skills in processing informative and inspirational messages. During the project process, students received direct guidance from practitioners and lecturers. They were also given the opportunity to present their design concepts in front of a panel consisting of representatives of lecturers, practitioners, and public health experts. Through this program, the Visual Communication Design Study Program demonstrates its commitment to integrating practice-based learning with social awareness, while preparing students to become professional designers who have empathy and responsibility for society.
