Three ISI Yogyakarta study programs win PKKM grants

The Visual Communication Design, Dance, and Photography Study Programs have successfully received PKKM (Independent Campus Competition Program) grants for 2024. "Yes, we are grateful, finally the three study programs that we submitted managed to get PKKM grants this year. The three study programs have struggled very optimally, even the three of them have prepared activity concepts and proposals since September. This deserves our appreciation, "said Martino Dwi Nugroho, as Executive Director of PKKM ISI Yogyakarta, who was accompanied by Daru Tunggul Aji as coordinator of DKV study program, Rina MArtiara as coordinator of Dance study program and PAmungkas Wahyu Setiyanto as coordinator of Photography study program.

The Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology has established the Independent Campus policy in 2020 as a form of higher education transformation with the main objective of improving the quality and relevance of undergraduate program graduates. The targets to be achieved through higher education transformation are (1) improving the quality of higher education graduates, (2) improving the quality of higher education lecturers, and (3) improving the quality of curriculum and learning as measured by 8 (eight) Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) stipulated through Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Number 210/M/2023.

To encourage, facilitate, and accelerate universities in implementing the Independent Campus policy and achieving the 8 (eight) Key Performance Indicators, the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology again held the Independent Campus Competition Program (PKKM). Similar to 2023, the 2024 program is still designed in 3 (three) leagues where State Universities (PTN) and Private Universities (PTS) can compete fairly in accordance with the rules in each league and also pay attention to geographic / regional aspects.

ISI Yogyakarta has 24 Study Programs, with 6 of them being D4. Each study program has its own characteristics and advantages. Regarding the selection of three study programs in their participation in PKKM, Martino explained that the three study programs that advanced in PKKM this year were not due to the equalization factor, one faculty one. They are not. So please put that aside first. The reason for the selection of these three study programs is more based on track records, gaps, excellence, and also the uniqueness of the study programs. For example, DKV Study Program is one of the study programs that has run MBKM quite well, their implementation of MBKM is arguably good, and also has the potential to develop even better, considering that DKV study program is a study program that can be considered "sexy" for now. Furthermore, this Dance Study Program has several advantages, the first: Dance is accredited superior, and has a network of partners, not only across provinces, but also across islands in the implementation of MBKM that has been undertaken, so this is a strategic consideration, why we chose Dance. And the last one. S1 Photography Study Program was chosen because of its status as a barometer of photography education in Indonesia and its suitability in carrying out the learning process with problem-solving methods that are in accordance with industry needs. Photography Study Program has an increasing number of applicants every year and has a great opportunity to develop student entrepreneurship. This means that the selection of these study programs has passed the "selection" both from curriculum evaluation documents, MBKM implementation, and future potential.

The three study programs through this proposal submitted several proposals for activity programs packaged for the next 2 years (2024-2025) as an effort to improve 3 aspects, namely the quality of graduates, the quality of lecturers, and the quality of the learning curriculum. This PKKM proposal was prepared by prioritizing creative and innovative values in line with the potential of each unit, both faculties and study programs.

The Visual Communication Design Study Program has a priority in optimizing the implementation of the MBKM Program with the title Strengthening the Visual Communication Design Study Program through Redesigning Mbkm Activities and Collaboration in Order to Improve the Quality of Learning Quality. The redesign of the MBKM program is an offer and target of activities that arise from the gaps that occur, with improvements and concepts in the program that will be run later can answer existing problems so that there are achievements in terms of the quality of out-of-class learning targeted by the DKV Study Program. Furthermore, the learning model for courses in the DKV study program based on Case Method, and Team Based Project is an advantage that needs to be continuously improved. Through the involvement of practitioners and partners, it can provide more learning experiences for students. There are 2 main activities, namely Redesigning MBKM activities for the achievement of Study Program SLOs and Improving the Quality of Learning based on case method and team-based project learning.

The S1 Dance Study Program activity is entitled Acceleration of the MBKM program and Digital-based Learning Innovation through Partnership Collaboration to Improve Study Program Quality. In activity 1, namely Curriculum Updating and Digital-based Learning Innovation, it is designed based on the profile of Dance graduates so far, namely to become a Choreographer and Researcher. However, in the increasingly massive development of the digital world, causing the need for digital knowledge and informatics techniques requires the development of a digital-based curriculum. Although not to become a reliable videographer, digital knowledge is deemed necessary to be given and included in courses that require digital applications in their learning. Curriculum development, will design innovative course development to include basic knowledge of digital applications and techniques in learning. In activity 2, namely Art and Multidisciplinary Partner Development, it is necessary to place dance as part of the conservation and development of human values, ecosystems, health. For this reason, partner development is deemed necessary to develop MBKM curriculum and programs to collaborate with other disciplines.

The activity of the Photography S1 Study Program is entitled Improving the Quality of the Photography Study Program through Partnerships, Problem Solving-Based Learning Innovations, PBL and Student Entrepreneurship. Improving the quality of students and graduates of the Photography Study Program is specialized in the field of entrepreneurship. Graduate entrepreneurs are encouraged to upgrade from micro to small level businesses. The indicator that shows this upscaling is the total annual revenue. One of the improvements in this revenue enhancement strategy is to acquire industrial clients (B2B, B2G), not just household consumers (B2C). Therefore, the internship and independent study programs in the Photography Study Program need to be improved and aligned with this ultimate goal of helping students develop a photography business upon graduation. There are 3 major activities, namely Problem Solving Based MBKM Curriculum Improvement, Improvement of industry-standard shooting learning through Project Based Learning, and Photography Entrepreneur Incubator.

The funding of this PKKM activity will last until the end of 2024, hopefully with the funding of activities and procurement of educational equipment can improve academic quality, relevance to the industrial world, and bring up many innovations in learning so that it can have an impact on the Main Performance Indicators.
