Student Affairs and students of the Faculty of Recording Media Arts (FSMR) ISI Yogyakarta collaborated to organize The 2nd Golden Semar Award 2023 on November 25, 2023 at 18.00 WIB at the Concert Hall ISI Yogyakarta. The 2nd Golden Semar Award 2023 was held to announce the results of the Sewonderlens competition as well as awarding the Soedjai Kartasasmita Award. The awarding was opened by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. and attended by the Dean and Head of FSMR ISI Yogyakarta, the jury, the winners of the competition, FSMR ISI Yogyakarta students and invitees.
Sewonderlens - Jogja International Student Photography and Film Competition is an international competition for students aged 15-25 years in the fields of photography, short films, documentaries, animated films and experimental films. Sewonderlens is a collaborative work in the field of student affairs of FSMR ISI Yogyakarta and the FSMR Student Executive Board involving several lecturers as internal curators and as activity coaches, and involving 85 students as activity implementers. The competition was held online through the website channel sewonderlens.isi.ac.id from September 2023 until the close of submissions on November 7, 2023. The number of submissions of photographic works reached 683 photos while the registered films reached 145 films with various genres. The number of participating countries is still dominated by Indonesia, followed by Romania, Hungary, Malaysia, Australia and China. This competition is also an international trial of the use of the Spelo platform, a photography competition judging application made by the FSMR ISI Yogyakarta lecturer team in collaboration with Art Photo Indonesia through the Kedaireka Matching Fund program in 2022.
In addition to the full support of ISI Yogyakarta, the Sewonderlens competition is also supported by Art Photo Indonesia, Ms. Agatha Anne Bunanta from PSA Worldwide, Mr. Soedjai Kartasasmita, ART-TV ISI Yogyakarta, Bank BPD DIY, Waroeng-SS and the support of media partners Buana Pictures, Cinema Komunikasi, MMTC Film Forum, Jogja Punya Acara, Cine Crib, Zero Degree Film and MM Kine Klub.
The competition judging involved 3 photography judges namely Agatha Anne Bunanta (International Relationships Vice President PSA Worldwide & Director of Art Photography Indonesia), Jack Reznicki (Former President of Professional Photographers of America/PPA), Dr. Jakab Tibor (University of Arts Târgu Mureș, Romania) and 3 film judges namely Adam Sutardy (Victorian College of Arts, The University of Melbourne, Australia), Levente Sipor (University of Arts Târgu Mureș, Romania). Jakab Tibor (University of Arts Târgu Mureș, Romania) and 3 film judges namely Adam Sutardy (Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne, Australia), Levente Sipos (Eszterházy Károly Föiskola, Hungary) and Mastura Muhammad (Universiti Teknologi MARA, UiTM, Malaysia). Participants of the photography competition competed for "The 3-Best" medals for the Landscape, Street, Color, Black and White and Fine Arts photography categories. Not only these categories, the photography jury added The 2-Best medal for journalistic photography, as well as a special award category for ISI Yogyakarta students. Meanwhile, the film area competed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for short fiction, short documentary, experimental and animation film categories.
FSMR ISI Yogyakarta in addition to giving international awards also gave the SOEDJAI KARTASASMITA AWARD in the form of a plaque and scholarship from Mr. Soedjai Kartasasmita, an Indonesian plantation godfather and photographer who annually provides assistance to FSMR ISI Yogyakarta students. This award is given to the works of special finalists of FSMR ISI Yogyakarta Sewonderlens finalists who are re-curated by internal curators. The number of students receiving prizes in 2023 reached 20 people consisting of 12 finalist students and 8 international champion students. Dr. Soedjai Kartasasmita through Drg Endang R. Soedjai as a family representative in his remarks emphasized that students continue to actively compete and with the support in the form of scholarships is expected to encourage students to be more creative and achieve more often.
