Exchange Lecture FSR ISI Yogyakarta - Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University Thailand

The Department of Craft, Faculty of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University Thailand will organize #1. Exchange Lecture. This activity is planned to be carried out online on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 13.00 to 14.30 WIB. Activity Exchange Lecture was carried out as a pilot of the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka program with ISI Yogyakarta partners from international universities. This online lecture will be presented by speakers Dr. Alvi Lufiani, M.FA. (Head of the Craft Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta), Dr. Yulriawan, M.Hum (Assistant Dean I, FSR ISI Yogyakarta) and Gandar Setiawan, M.Sn. (Lecturer of Craft Study Program ISI Yogyakarta). In this online lecture, the three speakers will discuss about "Indonesian Bamboo Architecture: Representation of Local Wisdom".

Topic Indonesian Bamboo Architecture: Representation of Local Wisdom was chosen because it is one of the mainstay courses of the S1 Craft Study Program, namely Traditional Architecture. The course is one of the courses offered to exchange students in the MBKM program. The topic of Indonesian Bamboo Architecture was chosen as the first considering that the predecessors of the Indonesian people are very famous for their expertise in processing bamboo into various products that support human life. Starting from furniture, residential buildings, household tools, kitchen tools to musical instruments. Bamboo architecture is proven to be shock-resistant and suitable for conditions in Indonesia that are prone to earthquakes. Bamboo with all its advantages has various features and has proven to be able to represent the local wisdom and culture of the nation. In addition, bamboo holds enormous opportunities to be utilized in the improvement of an environmentally friendly and sustainable people's economy. The abundance of bamboo in Indonesia is very potential to be developed into a more programmatic industry. Of course, the aspects that still need to be improved are in terms of design and technological innovation. Local wisdom that has been passed down by the nation's ancestors and supported by technological innovation will certainly produce a cultural product that is characterized and highly useful.

This Inaugural Lecture Exchange is also one part of the activity ARCADE, The International Symposium on Arts, Craft and Design 2021 organized by Silpakorn University, Thailand. Further activities Exchange Lecture will be continued with other courses such as Batik and Fashion, Souvenirs, Jewelry, Ceramics, Inlay and others. The course will be packaged and presented in an interesting way and include students from both parties, namely the Department of Craft ISI Yogyakarta and the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University. The benefits that will be obtained by students, especially the Craft Department, from this activity are increasing their knowledge of art, especially in the realm of craft with all its transformations and changes. Students will also meet peer groupthe fine arts students from Silpakorn University, Thailand, allowing them to discuss and expand their network of friends from different cultures. For both institutions, in addition to strengthening the existing cooperation, this activity can position both parties at a higher rank.
