The Bidikmisi Documentary Film Competition is a collaboration between the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs (Ditjen Belmawa) of Kemenristekdikti together with Metro TV and Eagle Institute Indonesia. The competition began when Kemenristekdikti collected 120 film proposals. The filmmakers were then selected and interviewed by Riri Riza (director), Gerzon Ayawaila (director), and Meuthia Ganie Rochman (University of Indonesia sociologist) until the ten best film proposals were selected. After the production and editing process, the ten films were assessed by a jury consisting of Plt. Secretary of DG Belmawa Rina Indiastuti, Riri Riza (Director) and Christine Hakim (Actress and Film Producer) to determine the three best documentary films. The first best film was titled Sarjana Pelunas Promise of Independence. The second best movie was titled Dream on a Wheelchair. The third best film was titled Steps of a Fox in the South.
The producer of the film entitled Dream on a Wheelchair is an alumnus of ISI Yogyakarta, namely Sdri. Uswah Chandra Fitriani, a student of the Photography Department who received the Bidikmisi Scholarship in 2012. While the film Step Fox in the South is a description of the journey of an indie band formed by ISI Yogyakarta alumni in the ethnomusicology department.
Here's a synopsis of the two documentaries:
- Dream on a Wheelchair (Dir. Morsed)
In 2009 a massive earthquake shook the city of Padang, West Sumatra. Quratta Ayuna Adrianus or commonly called Yuna was one of the victims of the earthquake and made her lose both legs. Although Yuna has physical limitations, Yuna is still enthusiastic about achieving her goals like normal people in general. While studying at the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Indonesia in Depok, West Java, Yuna lived life as a person with a disability who faced many challenges, such as the many public facilities in Jakarta that were still less friendly to disabilities. This anxiety made her create a mobile application design that is useful to facilitate the mobility of people with disabilities. This application design led her to graduate and hold the title of Bachelor. - Step of the Fox in the South (Directed by Ani Ema Susanti)
His love for ethnic music led Ronie to establish the band Rubah Di Selatan with his three friends, Melinda, Gilang and Adnan. This indie band, which he formed while still a student at the Indonesian Institute of Arts Yogyakarta, shows that they are young people who have not forgotten tradition. The ups and downs are experienced together, such as helping each other to save money by eating together, to finding a cheap recording place. They performed from community to community, until they got the opportunity to join the Siasat Trafficking Tour that took them to Europe. The enthusiasm of the audience was like a dream come true. The popularity of ethnic music being played by Rubah Di Selatan, answers the hard work they have done so far.
