YOGYAKARTA, April 24, 2026 – Sixty-eight students from the 2025 cohort of the Media Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, undertook an educational visit to the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace, also known as Gedung Agung Yogyakarta.
This activity is part of the experiential learning reinforcement developed by ISI Yogyakarta to broaden students' insights into the relationship between art, design, history, culture, and national values.
During the visit, the students were accompanied by four lecturers: Lutse Lambert Daniel Morin, M.Sn., Mutia Nurdina, S.T., M.Sc., Hanifiana Kartikasari, S.Ds., M.Ds., and Afifudin, S.Pd., M.Sn. The group arrived at Gedung Agung at 1:00 PM Western Indonesian Time and participated in a series of activities involving the introduction of the space, history, and cultural values associated with the historic building.
A visit to the Gedung Agung is not only meaningful as an observational activity but also as a contextual learning space for Media Design students. Through direct experience in the palace environment, students are invited to understand how history, architecture, artifacts, visual symbols, and national narratives can become sources of inspiration in developing creative ideas.
For design students, the ability to read space, symbols, and socio-cultural context is an important part of the creative process. Therefore, this activity is directed at strengthening visual sensitivity, reflective abilities, and students' awareness of the importance of cultural heritage as a source of knowledge and design creation.

The accompanying lecturer representative stated that this visit is expected to enrich the students' perspectives in viewing design not only as a visual product but also as a medium for conveying national values, identity, and collective memory.
“This activity is expected to develop social skills, strengthen a love for cultural heritage, and build students” awareness that design has an important role in preserving and communicating national values," said a representative of the assisting lecturer.
One of the important agendas during the visit was a literacy and discussion session at the Palace Library. In this session, students gained a space to discuss their observations during their time at the Gedung Agung complex. The discussion served as a means to connect historical narratives with potential visual developments in the field of media design.
Through this activity, FSRD ISI Yogyakarta reaffirms its commitment to providing a relevant, contextual learning process that focuses on strengthening student character. Learning not only takes place in the classroom but is also expanded through direct encounters with cultural and historical spaces that hold significant value for the nation.
As a leading art college in Indonesia, ISI Yogyakarta continuously encourages students to have artistic sensitivity, cultural insight, and social responsibility. A visit to Gedung Agung is one of the efforts to shape future media designers who are not only visually creative but also possess a deep understanding of Indonesian cultural identity and history.
This educational experience is expected to be an important provision for the 2025 Media Design students in pursuing their academic process, while also strengthening the role of ISI Yogyakarta as an art educational institution that consistently produces creative, character-driven individuals who contribute to society.
