YOGYAKARTA, April 23, 2026 — The R.J Katamsi Gallery of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta is once again an important space for the development of visual art discourse through the holding of Visual Arts Week #4: Bright Star, Shadows Gone which will take place from April 20-26, 2026. This activity not only presents an art exhibition but also strengthens the position of ISI Yogyakarta as an art higher education institution that consistently provides academic, artistic, and social spaces relevant to the dynamics of the times.
Carrying the theme Bright Star, Shadows Gone, Pekan Rupa #4 offers a critical reading of the social realities behind the often outwardly dazzling image of progress. Through the exhibited works, the public is invited to explore the “shadows” hidden behind artificial optimism, while also witnessing how art can speak of social wounds, anxieties, and hopes with a reflective and powerful language.
Held in one of the campus's premier art spaces, the R.J. Katamsi Gallery of ISI Yogyakarta, this event serves as a testament to ISI Yogyakarta's continued efforts to foster an open, critical, and productive art ecosystem. The presence of programs like this demonstrates that art campuses are not merely places for classroom learning, but also hubs for knowledge creation, artistic production, and cultural dialogue that reach a broad public.
Grand Opening Pekan Rupa #4 will be held on April 20, 2026, marking the start of a week-long series of activities. The public can enjoy a variety of programs that have been prepared, ranging from art exhibitions, gallery tours, artist talks, workshops, to musical performances. This series showcases the breadth of ISI Yogyakarta's approach in building an art experience that does not stop at visual appreciation, but also involves discussions, education, and cross-practice interaction.
This activity also strengthens ISI Yogyakarta's reputation as an institution of higher art education capable of providing a space for expression as well as a space for thought. Amidst the need for a campus that is responsive to social issues and contemporary art developments, Pekan Rupa #4 affirms ISI Yogyakarta's capacity in nurturing academic traditions based on freedom of expression, courage to experiment, and closeness to societal issues.
Pekan Rupa #4 is open to students and the general public, this scheme demonstrates a commitment to expanding public access to art, while encouraging the participation of the younger generation in meaningful cultural spaces. Through Pekan Rupa #4, ISI Yogyakarta reaffirms itself as an art higher education institution that is not only excellent in education but also actively shapes the Indonesian art and cultural landscape. It is in spaces like these that art grows, ideas converge, and ISI Yogyakarta's impactful position as an art campus is further strengthened.
