FSMR ISI Yogyakarta Organizes Seminar "Acceleration and Reflection of Art and Media in the Age of Technology"

The Faculty of Recording Media Arts (FSMR) of the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta on November 1 and 2, 2023 will again hold an annual seminar event. hybrid. "Acceleration and Reflection of Art and Media in the Age of Technology" is the theme of this 2023 Recorded Media Arts Seminar.

In 2023, the ease of access to current recording media technology devices allows for a variety of innovations in their utilization for art. Artificial intelligence technology, which is now very accessible and always developing in a matter of weeks, has caused unrest among artists where there is a fear that artificial intelligence can replace the role of artists to create works of art. However, to a certain extent, artificial intelligence can also be utilized by artists as a tool in the creation of works of art.

The Chairman of the Seminar Committee, Tegar Andito, M.Sn., stated that artificial intelligence needs to be trained to be able to work well, providing opportunities for artists to contribute to the development of artificial intelligence. Thus, the theme of technology and its intertwining with the art of recording media was raised as the theme of this year's seminar. Access to works of art, in the fields of television, photography, and animation, are no longer only presented on flat media, but are also starting to be popularly presented in the media. virtual reality or augmented reality where works of art in recorded media are presented in the form of optical illusions so as to provide an experience alternate reality to the viewer. In terms of the content of recorded media works, there is a trend of conveying ideas, which sometimes contain elements of social criticism in the form of meme and short video through the presence of social media. On the other hand, there is a saturation in the use of technology in the creation of recorded media artworks. The popularity of various artworks made into NFTs in 2021 and the fall in their selling value in 2022 led to saturation in the creation of digital artworks. This then triggered the trend of creating tangible artwork where works of art are deliberately created using traditional techniques that can be physically touched.

The phrase "Acceleration and reflection of art and media in the technological era" was chosen as a theme that represents the issues and trends of art and media. The theme was chosen to emphasize that the researches that will be disseminated have a frame of mind that recorded media art not only accelerates with the existing media technology trends, but can also contribute to its development, as well as reflect it with technology.

as stated by the Dean of FSMR ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Edial Rusli, S.E., M.Sn.
