Rector Opens Mask Show - Masquerade Gamelan Intercultural Performing Arts

The Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. Drs. Timbul Raharjo, M.Hum opened the show Topeng - Masquerade Gamelan Intercultural Performing Arts on August 28, 2028, at 19.30 until completion, at the Concert Hall ISI Yogyakarta. The opening was also attended by the Regent of Bantul, H. Abdul Halim Muslih, ISI Yogyakarta leadership and invited guests. This mask pageralan is the result of collaboration between the Department of Karawitan FSP ISI Yogyakarta in collaboration with Trace 21 Foundation + Foundation Visisonor Amsterdam organized. Before the performance was also held Open Rehearsal and Work Review. Musicians who performed at Topeng - Masquerade Gamelan Intercultural Performing Arts consisting of Black Pencil Ansamble-Dutch, Kyai Fatahillah- UPI Bandung, and Joloyo Ansamble-ISI Yogyakarta.

This performance is also included in one of the agendas of the 39th Anniversary of ISI Yogyakarta. The intercultural concept in this performance refers to the collaboration between gamelan and music from different cultural backgrounds. This collaboration includes various aspects, from musical composition to theatrical movements. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that gamelan can provide a distinctive musical nuance and enrich the experience of composers and artists involved in the work. This kind of collaboration not only creates a harmonious sound, but also combines cultural elements from two different worlds.

The idea of this collaborative work raises the traditional masks that developed in Yogyakarta. The mask that becomes the idea of the work is then packaged in a musical composition using the medium of gamelan and Western musical instruments. Composers, gamelan players and other artists work together to create music that combines traditional elements with contemporary elements. In this case, the gamelan is not only used to play traditional Javanese music, but also to create new sounds and rhythms.thus Topeng - Masquerade Gamelan Intercultural Performing ArtsNot only does it provide an exciting artistic experience, but it also has high cultural values. Through this collaboration, gamelan players and artists from different cultural backgrounds can learn from each other and appreciate the uniqueness of each culture. This performance is also a means to introduce Indonesia's rich culture to the international community.

Through this performance, it is hoped that the collaboration between ISI Yogyakarta, Trace 21 Foundation + Foundation Visisonor Amsterdam, and UPI Bandung can continue, especially the network between musicians can be closer. In addition, Topeng - Masquerade Gamelan Intercultural Performing Arts is expected to provide a breath of fresh air to the world of music composition.
