ISI Yogyakarta's Craft Department Promotes Indonesian Batik and Crafts at G20 Session

The Department of Craft, Faculty of Fine Arts, ISI Yogyakarta had the opportunity to promote batik at one of the G20 sessions held in Yogyakarta. The department promoted batik at the G20 session - 2nd Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) and Side Event Workshop on the G20 Toolkit for Measuring Digital Skills and Digital Literacy on 17 to 19 May 2022 at the Tentrem Hotel organized by the Ministry of Communication and Information. This session provides an opportunity for the Craft Department to promote Indonesian batik and craft to delegates of the G-20 member countries, guest countries and international organizations.

The Craft Department, through lecturers Dra. Djandjang Purwo Sedjati, M.Hum, Tri Wulandari, M.Sn and students from the Fashion Design and Batik Craft study program, Usnul Hotimah introduced Indonesian batik and craft at the international forum. In the international forum, the three representatives of the department conducted batik demonstrations, especially classic hand-written batik, as well as providing explanations about batik from the aspects of philosophy, aesthetics and the latest developments. The representatives of the Craft Department also described batik as a cultural object that is studied in an academic environment such as an art college. Not to forget, the three representatives invited the enthusiastic participants to try their hand at batik for the first time on a piece of cloth with a batik motif that had been prepared.

Through this event, it is hoped that Indonesian batik will be more widely recognized globally as well as representing the archipelago's fair craft culture that is timeless and able to respond to the times. The existence of the G20 forum can be utilized to introduce the cultural and artistic products of the Indonesian people to the global community so that more people will utilize Indonesian art and cultural products.
