The S1 Art Management Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts ISI Yogyakarta, Museum Benteng Vrederburg and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology organized a Collaborative Contemporary Exhibition entitled "Daulat and Ikhtiar: Interpreting the March 1, 1949 General Offensive Through Art". The Collaborative Contemporary Exhibition organized as part of the Commemoration Agenda of the March 1 General Strike in Yogyakarta will be held from 1 to 30 March 2020, at 08.00 - 15.00 every day except Mondays and national holidays. The organization of this exhibition involves two curators, five artists and students of the S1 Art Management Study Program of ISI Yogyakarta. The curators involved in the cast are Dr. Mikke Susanto, M.A. and Duls Rumbawa. Meanwhile, artists participating in this exhibition include Dedy Sufriadi, Lutse Lambert, Riyan Kresnandi, Tempa and Broken Picth. Students of ISI Yogyakarta's S1 Art Management Study Program are seen in the management of the exhibition organized as part of the Commemoration of the March 1 General Attack.
The March 1, 1949 General Strike was an important event for the Indonesian people. This important event was engraved in a passive monument that became one of the icons of the New Order era. The elements in it become a sign of the nation's struggle that is noisy with treasures and events. In a monument, the complexity of the history of events is guided. The monument is known as the March 1 General Attack Monument, which is located at zero kilometer and within the Vredeburg Fort Museum area.
Five young artists from Yogyakarta respond to the 5 profession characters in the General Attack Monument into a new narrative. The artists will re-narrate the professions of soldiers, students, farmers, women, and youth in the March 1 General Attack Monument to be more contextual in accordance with current and future conditions. The new narrative will be displayed in the Daulat and Ikhtiar Exhibition.
The Daulat and Ikhtiar exhibition is a statement that the general attack as an effort to maintain the sovereignty of independence was carried out in various ways and forms. This is the variety of efforts realized by all levels of society. War, sovereignty and endeavors are a unity to maintain the dignity of humanity.
