Open Senate Session in the framework of Dies Natalis XXXV / Lustrum VII ISI Yogyakarta in 2019

The peak event of the commemoration of the XXXV / Lustrum VII ISI Yogyakarta Anniversary was marked by the holding of an Open Senate Session in the framework of the XXXV / Lustrum VII ISI Yogyakarta Anniversary in 2019, which was held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the ISI Yogyakarta Concert Hall building. On this occasion the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. M. Agus Burhan, M.Hum., delivered a speech and Rector's report with the title "Artificial Intelligence in Art in the Era of Industrial Revolution 4.0". This theme was raised in response to various phenomena of changing times, marked by the era of disruption from various accelerations of fundamental changes in the new order of life that are strongly influenced by information communication technology and digitalization. Works of art can also be created beyond technological determinations, because art can be awakened from dreams, spirituality, or unconsciousness that are unthinkable, unpredictable, and imagined in a measured and limited manner. Therefore, the challenge of ISI Yogyakarta in the future is how to capture the opportunities of digital information technology as an extension of its hands to develop its art, but also to maintain contextual values and traditions from the wealth of potential that has been its capital. In this case, a paradigm of higher education in the arts must be developed that can dialogically answer challenges and strengthen existing identity and character.

While the scientific speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ismunandar, Director General of Learning and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, with the title "Challenges and Roles of Universities and Their Graduates in Facing the Industrial Era 4.0". He conveyed the need for universities to provide education to the nation's next generation to be creative and innovative towards sustainable economic growth in the industrial era 4.0. Based on QS world ranking by subject (2019) ISI Yogyakarta in the field of art or by subject of performing arts is recorded as high, which is in the range of #51-100, and regionally in the Asian region is ranked 8th.

"If the measure is QS ranking by subjectTherefore, what is more important to continue to be encouraged, improved, and developed by ISI Yogyakarta is the reputation in the field of performing arts. Thus, the main indicator is the artwork or art performance, not just referring to the number of publications/citations. This is different from other fields/subjects. In addition, the role of universities is as one of the pillars of the nation's progress, the creation of knowledge (knowledge creation). It would also be better if ISI Yogyakarta always integrates interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary, across arts, humanities, and STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) in implementing the tri darma of higher education," explained Prof. Ismunandar.
