Yogyakarta, April 2026 – The Art Management Department, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta is holding an event titled “Eight Visual Art Exhibitions of the Art Management Department, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta 2026.” This activity is part of the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education, particularly in the aspects of teaching and community service. Through the organization of art exhibitions in various public spaces in Yogyakarta, this program is expected to bring visual arts closer, more inclusively, and contextually to the wider community.
This agenda also serves as a practical learning experience for the Exhibition Management Review (TKP) #1 course, which focuses on exhibition management studies. This course is taught by Dr. Mikke Susanto, MA., Dian Ajeng Kirana, M.Sn., and Emillo In Zighana, M.Sn. Through collaboration with various institutions, this agenda is open to the public, with both free and paid options. The Head of the Art Management Department, Dr. Trisna Pradita, M.M., stated, “This annual agenda is very useful for students in observing the development of events and simultaneously enhancing their skills in art management.”
These eight exhibitions, held from April 23 to May 13, 2026, are organized by the class of 2025 students as part of their project-based learning process. Over 70 students are actively involved, accompanied by four faculty members as mentors and supervisors. The students are divided into 8 working groups, each designing, managing, and realizing an exhibition with a different theme, spread across various locations in Yogyakarta City.
The eight exhibitions involved approximately 70 artists. Artists from both within and outside Yogyakarta, who are still actively creating or have passed away, were involved as part of an effort to build a cross-generational dialogue in fine art. The venues included various alternative spaces and art institutions, such as On the Pop Cafe, Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja, Sangkasa Gallery, Bale Black Box Laboratory, Bakmi Maju Tak Gentar, Survive! Garage, and JNM Bloc, reflecting the diversity of Yogyakarta's art ecosystem, from art spaces to everyday spaces like cafes and eateries.

Through this agenda, the public is expected to become familiar with various forms of visual art practices and understand the dynamics behind exhibition management. For students, this activity provides a space for experimentation as well as strengthening competencies in cultural governance, especially visual arts. Furthermore, this program also serves as a response to contemporary challenges by encouraging artists to continue creating and adapting to various conditions and situations, while simultaneously strengthening networks between academics, artists, and the public.
