YOGYAKARTA - Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta continues to strengthen its commitment in building professional, safe, and public service-oriented campus governance. One of the strategic steps taken is through the Guidance and Training of Security Unit (Satpam) for security personnel in the campus environment. This activity was held on March 4-5, 2026 in Meeting Room 3 of the ISI Yogyakarta Rectorate Building and was attended by 19 PNS and PPPK security guards in the institution.
As the largest arts college in Indonesia, ISI Yogyakarta has very dynamic academic activities, research, and art activities. Various academic agendas, art festivals, exhibitions, performances, and public visits make this campus a creative interaction space that is open to the public. In this context, the existence of a professional security unit is an important element to ensure a safe, orderly and conducive campus environment for all academicians and the visiting public.
This coaching activity presented speakers from the Directorate of Community Order Development of the Yogyakarta Special Region Police (DIY Regional Police) who provided various important materials related to refreshing the duties and functions of security guards, campus security procedures, handling emergency situations, to strengthening excellent service and effective communication in carrying out security duties.

The material provided not only focuses on the technical aspects of security, but also emphasizes the importance of a humanist and professional service approach. This is in line with the character of an art campus that has high creative activity dynamics and intensive interaction with the wider community.
In his remarks, the Vice Rector for Finance and General Affairs of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Suryati, M.Hum., emphasized that strengthening the competence of the security force is an important part of efforts to improve the quality of institutional governance and campus services.
“Security guards are at the forefront of maintaining security as well as being the first representation of the institution when interacting with students, lecturers, guests, and the community. Therefore, improving their professionalism, communication skills, and preparedness is very important to support the creation of a safe, orderly, and comfortable campus environment,” he said.
According to him, this effort to strengthen the capacity of security guards is also part of the implementation of the principle of good governance in the management of higher education institutions. A safe and well-organized campus will support the creation of an academic climate conducive to the learning process, research, and the development of artistic creativity.
In line with this, the Head of the Bureau of Planning, Finance and General Affairs (BPKU) ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Bhimo Widyo Andoko, S.H., M.H., said that security guard coaching is a human resource development program for educational personnel which is carried out on an ongoing basis.
“Strengthening the capacity of security guards does not only aim to improve technical security capabilities, but also build professional attitudes, discipline, and good service skills. Security guards must be able to become a friendly liaison between the institution and the people who come to campus,” he explained.

During the two-day event, the participants attended various training sessions that were comprehensively designed. On the first day, participants received material on refreshing the duties and functions of security guards as well as campus security procedures and handling emergency situations. While on the second day, the activity continued with excellent service material and effective communication, as well as practical simulations of handling security situations guided directly by resource persons from the DIY Regional Police.
The simulation is an important part of improving security guard preparedness in dealing with various potential security disturbances in the campus environment. Through interactive and practice-based training methods, participants can understand firsthand how steps should be taken in certain situations, ranging from handling conflicts, securing campus activities, to responding to emergency conditions.
In addition to increasing the capacity of participants, this activity is also a means of evaluating the competence of security guards who take part in the training. The assessment is carried out based on understanding of technical material, practical skills in security simulations, attendance during activities, as well as leadership and managerial aspects. The evaluation results are then used as the basis for the selection process of ISI Yogyakarta security guard commander candidates who will be determined through a competency-based assessment mechanism.

This step is part of the institution's efforts to strengthen a structured and professional campus security system. With a security guard commander who has good leadership competence, it is expected that the coordination and management of campus security can run more effectively.
This coaching activity also emphasizes ISI Yogyakarta's commitment to developing human resources in a sustainable manner, not only for lecturers and students, but also for education personnel who play an important role in supporting the operations of the institution.
As an art college that continues to grow at the national and international levels, ISI Yogyakarta has the responsibility to ensure that all aspects of campus management run professionally and to a high standard. Campus security is one of the important foundations that support the smooth running of various academic and creative activities that take place every day.
Through this security guard coaching and training program, ISI Yogyakarta hopes to create a campus security system that is increasingly professional, responsive, and adaptive to the dynamics of the campus environment. This effort is also part of a strategy to strengthen institutional governance oriented towards service quality, security of the academic environment, and increasing the reputation of ISI Yogyakarta as a leading arts college in Indonesia.
With the support of competent human resources in various lines, including in the field of campus security, ISI Yogyakarta continues to strengthen its position as a center for arts education that not only excels in creativity and innovation, but also in professional, safe, and integrity institutional governance.
