ISI Yogyakarta Holds Eco-Design-based Craft Design Training in Margomulyo Bojonegoro

Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta through the Basic-Fundamental Research Scheme Research Group held a craft product design training with an eco-design approach based on the exploration of local plant materials. The event took place on Sunday, July 6, 2025 in Japan Hamlet, Margomulyo Village, Margomulyo District, Bojonegoro Regency.

This training is part of a research program entitled "Craft-Core: Integration of Eco-Design in Craft Products Based on the Exploration of Local Plant Materials as a Revitalization of Samin Surosentiko's Lofty Pitutur in Margomulyo Bojonegoro." Through this program, the ISI Yogyakarta research team consisting of Dr. Sugeng Wardoyo, S.Sn., M.Sn., Drs. I Made Sukanadi, M.Hum. and Tri Wulandari, S.Sn., M.A. sought to inventory the potential of local plants as a source of environmentally friendly craft materials while revitalizing the values of Samin's noble sayings that are closely related to the local community.

The Margomulyo community, especially local crafters, were given training in designing craft products with the concept of eco-design. The training included the utilization of materials from surrounding plants, material processing techniques, and design approaches that consider environmental sustainability.

This activity is also a venue for cultural dialogue to strengthen people's understanding of the noble teachings of Samin Surosentiko, which emphasize simplicity, honesty, and harmony with nature. From this program, it is hoped that innovative craft products will emerge that not only have aesthetic and economic value, but also carry messages of local wisdom and environmental sustainability, and strengthen Margomulyo's cultural identity as one of the centers of the Samin community.

ISI Yogyakarta continues to encourage its academic community to implement programs that have a direct impact on society. This training program confirms that ISI Yogyakarta not only contributes to the development of science, but also builds economically empowered communities, preserves and develops community culture. This program is in line with the spirit of Campus Impact launched by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
