Ecraf becomes new economic growth engine, Ministry of Ecraf collaborates with universities

Jakarta, May 20, 2025 - The Ministry of Creative Economy (Ekraf) strengthened the synergy of national creative economy development through the signing of a Joint Understanding (MoU) with five Indonesian universities held at Thamrin Nine, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 20, 2025. This cooperation is part of a collaborative strategy between the government and the world of higher education.

The five universities that became partners in this signing are Telkom University (Bandung), Ar-Raniry State Islamic University (Aceh), Syiah Kuala University (Aceh), Parahyangan Catholic University (Bandung), and Universitas Kebangsaan Republik Indonesia (Bandung).

Minister of Ecraf Teuku Riefky Harsya said the signing of the MoU coincided with National Awakening Day when Boedi Oetomo was founded by students as the first milestone of the national movement organization.

"This cooperation and declaration is in line with the Ministry of Ecraf in strengthening the creative economy ecosystem through a hexahelix approach in which universities are one of the important elements through the development of education and research. This is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's direction that a collaborative approach is possible in developing Indonesia's creative economy," he said in the opening.

Furthermore, the Minister of Ecraf said that cooperation with universities is in line with several flagship programs of the Ministry of Ecraf, namely: EKRAF DATA, Strengthening Ecraf Data; EKRAF BIJAK, Strengthening Ecraf Regulations, Policies and Institutions; TALENTA EKRAF, Strengthening Capabilities to Increase Income of Ecraf Activists; and SINERGI EKRAF, synergy of hexahelix Ecraf in strengthening local products.

The signing was carried out by the Secretary of the Ministry / Principal Secretary of the Ecraf Agency with the leaders of each university and witnessed by the Minister of Ecraf Teuku Riefky.

The purpose of this collaboration is to synergize the Tri Dharma of Higher Education programs, namely education, research, and community service with the development of the creative economy. The scope of the agreement includes collaboration in organizing education and training, joint research, data and information exchange, human resource capacity building, and other relevant activities according to the authority and functions of each party.

In addition to the signing of the MoU, the Consortium of Creative Economy Universities was also established, which aims to be a forum for collaboration in order to create an educational ecosystem that is increasingly conducive to the birth of a creative generation.

"The creative economy is not just a trend, but a new engine of economic growth, playing a major role in creating jobs, and increasing the nation's competitiveness in the global arena," explained Minister of Ekraf Teuku Riefky.

In this event, the Declaration of the Establishment of the Consortium of Creative Economy Universities was also read by a number of university representatives, including:

  3. Jakarta Arts Institute representative, Citra Smara Dewi

  4. Bandung Institute of Technology representative, Intan Rizky Mutiaz

  6. Parahyangan Catholic University Representative, Elvy Maria Manurung

  7. LaSalle College Jakarta representative Hairun Ali Gani

  8. Telkom University representative, Dandi Yunidar

Deputy for Strategic Development of Creative Economy, Cecep Rukendi, revealed that the signing of this MoU is part of advancing the nation by encouraging collective efforts to develop ecraf through university cooperation.

"The Declaration of the Establishment of the Consortium of Creative Economy Universities, several universities that have worked together are working to encourage this consortium. This declaration contains 10 points of commitment from the members of the Consortium of Creative Economy Universities for the development of the creative economy," he said.

The Declaration of the Consortium of Creative Economy Universities includes carrying out community service that is appropriate, has a real impact, and is sustainable for creative industry players and optimizes the protection and utilization of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to create added economic value.

Based on the results of the establishment meeting of the Consortium of Creative Economy Universities held in Yogyakarta on April 17, 2025. Three representatives of ISI Yogyakarta each became supervisor, vice chairman, and head of research and community service in the consortium management.

In his remarks, the Minister of Ecraf also emphasized that universities have an important position in producing applicable research and creative human resources needed by the industry. Therefore, this partnership is expected to strengthen the synergy between government policies and the contribution of academics to create an inclusive, innovative and sustainable creative economy ecosystem.

Also present were Rector of Syiah Kuala State University, Marwan; Rector of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University (Aceh), Mujiburrahman; Rector of Telkom University, Suyanto; Rector of Parahyangan Catholic University, Tri Basuki Joewono; Vice Rector for Cooperation, Universitas Kebangsaan Republik Indonesia, Fadli Tri Hartono; Director of Tourism, Creative and Digital Economy of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, Wahyu Wijayanto.

The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Ecraf, Irene Umar; Secretary of the Ministry/Principal Secretary, Dessy Ruhati; Deputy of Cultural Creativity and Design, Yuke Sri Rahayu; Head of Legal, Human Resources and Organization Bureau, Moch. Nurul Huda; and Director of Marketing System Development and Institutional Relations, Radi Manggala.
