The Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. opened Gelar Seni Pertunjukan Rakyat or Gesper to be held at the Old Rectorate Building of ISI Yogyakarta or the Performing Arts Education Department Building, on June 28, 2024, at 08.00 WIB. This year's Gesper will be held for three days from June 27 to 28, 2024. Gesper is organized in collaboration with the Cross Age Art Association which consists of alumni of the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta and the Department Student Association in the Faculty of Performing Arts Lingungan. Gesper was held as an effort to bring artistic expression, especially performing arts, closer to the community.
In his opening remarks, the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn., said "Today ISI Yogyakarta has many agendas and I chose to open Gesper because this activity is very relevant to the spirit of the 40th Dies or 8th Lustru, ISI Yogyakarta, the transformation of artistic power for superior Indonesia". The Rector further said that Gesper shows how through art events can empower small and medium enterprises so as to improve the welfare of the community, in other words, art can bring Indonesia to a better life.
Our first Gesper was held in 1999 and in 2024, the event will be 25 years old. Over time, Gesper has become a space for alumni networks that are culturally intertwined and spread across every region in Indonesia. This year, the alumni network proclaimed itself as the Cross Age Art Association. Through this association, it is hoped that more creative programs will emerge by optimizing the potential of the collaboration network.
Didit as the head of the Gesper 2024 committee said, "We are trying to revive the spirit of collaboration, which hopefully in the future can become a gathering place and a party for folk performing arts in the archipelago."
Wibowo as the chairman of the Cross Age Art Association said that "This association is dedicated to creating a management system for the caloboration of Indonesian popular arts and culture. Through various creative program ideas, it seeks to connect various generations and communities to work together in a collaborative process through a variety of folk arts. Hopefully this good intention will result in good appreciation from the wider community."
During the Gesper event, the agendas that will be held include the Great Reunion of the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta, cross-age workshop, cross-age carnival, cross-age market, art workshop, blood donation, craft demo and performance. Musical performances feature Sirkus Barock, Iksan Skuter, Kukuh Kudamai, Nyi Ageng Ethic and Sri Rejeki. Contemporary performances will feature Anterdans, Dingklik Sindhen, Pragina Gong, Sanggar Kinanti Sekar, Angguk Kembang Asih, Jathilan Kulonprogo, Wayang Ki Kenci and many more performances that will entertain the public.
