After the success of the Niskala Nawasena musical theater performance in the previous performance, the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta again held a Musical theater entitled Ambarasta. This colossal performance that combines elements of theater, dance, ethnic music, modern music, and puppetry will be performed on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 7:30 pm at the Plaza FSP Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta, Jl. Parangtritis KM 6.5 Sewon Bantul as a series of 8th ISI Yogyakarta Lustrum events. This performance was held to enliven the 40th Anniversary or 8th Lustrum of ISI Yogyakarta.
The colossal performance entitled Ambarasta was opened by Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D (Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education and Culture) for the period 2020 to 2024. This performance was also witnessed by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta and leaders in the ISI Yogyakarta environment, delegates from the University of Indonesia, ISI Yogyakarta students and the general public. According to Haryanto, M.Sn. as the coordinator of ISI Yogyakarta Anniversary Activities from the Faculty of Performing Arts, the audience for this performance exceeded the target and we were forced to close the registration form.
Ambarasta is a continuation of the story of Niskala Nawasena, after Niskala managed to reclaim the Dwipantara kingdom from the rebellion of Ahengkara's troops, Niskala was crowned Queen who led the kingdom. The story of Ambarasta is a metaphor as a call to defend the country to the golden generation of Indonesia. Niskala is a picture of Indonesia that is charming in the eyes of all countries. The fame of the earth has always been a global concern. As a country that has abundant natural resources, Indonesia will always experience trials and disturbances both from outside and within the country such as; division, radicalism, multi-crisis, moral decadence etc. Cultivating love for the country and instilling the spirit of defending the country in the young generation of Indonesia is a real step to ensure the lives of our future generations.
This performance is the result of collaboration between lecturers and students of various study programs at the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta. The script of Ambarasta is written and directed by: Rano Sumarno, M.Sn, composer: Puput Pramuditya, M.Sn., accompanist: Warsana, M.Sn., Dance Director: Galih Suci Manganti, M.A., and Puppet Artist: Aneng Kiswantoro, M.Sn. This performance involved one hundred and fifty students from the performing arts faculty of ISI Yogyakarta. Hopefully next year a similar performance can be organized.
