ISI Yogyakarta Holds National Seminar with the Theme of Art, Religion, Civilization

ISI Yogyakarta will hold a national seminar in order to enliven the 8th Lustrum with the theme "Art, Religion, Civilization" on June 6, 2024, at the Concert Hall ISI Yogyakarta, at 08.00 - 12.00 WIB. This national seminar will present three speakers, namely Dr. Haryatmoko from Sanata Dharma University Yogyakarta, Dr. Saras Dewi from the University of Indonesia, A. Sujud Dartanto, S.Sn., M.A. from the National Gallery of Indonesia and one keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Fransisco Budi Hardiman, S.S., M.A. from Pelita Harapan University. Dr. Koes Yuliadi as moderator and Trisna Pradita Putra, S.Sos., M.M., as emcee will ensure that the seminar runs smoothly and flows well. The seminar is held as one of the significant steps in enriching the understanding of the relationship between art, religion, civilization.

The journey of the citizens of this nation to become the Indonesia that the founding fathers envisioned, as enshrined in the preamble of the 1945 Constitution, has not been easy. It has been a steep road, with bends and passages, often accompanied by worrying turbulence. Nevertheless, Indonesians have been tested enough to face and solve complex problems - including social, economic, political, cultural situations, intolerance, environmental crises, ethical crises, legal manipulation, and so on - even though they are never actually resolved to the root of the problem.

In the midst of such a situation, a specific question arises, "what is the role of art in national issues?"; or "where does art play a role". This question is relevant considering that the genetics of the Indonesian nation is basically art. Some citizens are accustomed to expressing many interests through the medium of art. While some of us believe that art is closely related to the issue of training the fineness of the mind, sharpening sensitivity to humanity and various social, political and environmental issues. Are artists starting to lose their critical power? Are artists becoming dull and moving away from taking sides in various crises? Is art beginning to lose its function as an arouser of national, civic and humanitarian awareness?

These questions specifically target art higher education institutions, one of which is Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, which this year is reaching the age of 40 or entering the 8th Lustrum celebration. ISI Yogyakarta deserves these questions, given its position as an art higher education institution that teaches the practice of art creation and the production of art knowledge, which is expected that its academicians and alumni can play a role in society actively, productively, and enlightening. These questions will be answered by the speakers through their presentations.

The seminar is open to the general public with a limited quota of 250 participants. Seminar participants who attend in person will receive an E-Certificate. Registration for the national seminar is through the link bit.ly/seminarTDSIU. Complete information about the seminar can contact the contact person Istna with the cellular number 081322851171.
