The Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) will organize a Virtual Degree of Folk Arts in the Context of Strengthening the Revolution. This virtual performance will feature Oglek Art and Angguk Art from Tuksono Village, Sentolo, Kulon Progo Regency. This virtual performance will be held on October 24, 2021, at 19.00 WIB, through the Youtube Channel of ISI Yogyakarta.
Oglek and Angguk are two original arts from Kulon Progo Regency. Oglek art emphasizes dynamic and rhythmic dance movements in the form of aggressive broken movements. This dance is performed in groups of four dancers and one handler. The dancers use costumes consisting of iket kepleng, jarik sapit urang, panji pants by riding a braided horse and armed with a sword. The dancers dance to the rhythm of the gamelan being played. Meanwhile, the handler carries a whip which at certain times is always used to hit but not hurt (mecut, Javanese) the dancers. The handler also serves as the "suwuk man" who heals the dancers who are in a trance.
Angguk art is a variety of group dance. Angguk dance features beautiful dancers wearing costumes such as Dutch soldiers, sunglasses, socks and Dutch-style clothing. This dance is dominated by head nodding movements and is inspired by the dance movements of the Dutch army. In every Angguk dance performance, there will always be moral teachings delivered by vocalists in the form of rhymes, life advice, education and others.
The virtual performance was organized as an effort to strengthen the mental revolution through arts and cultural activities. The collaboration in organizing this virtual performance is a form of mutual cooperation that will become a stronghold of national resilience. Hopefully, this spirit of mutual cooperation can be internalized in society so that it can rise in this pandemic era and be able to solve various problems faced collectively.
