Strengthening Global Reputation, ISI Yogyakarta Signs Cooperation with Guangxi Arts University

Yogyakarta, May 29, 2026 — The Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta welcomed an official visit from a delegation from Guangxi Arts University, China, for a meeting and signing of a cooperation agreement on Friday, May 29, 2026, in Meeting Room 1 of the ISI Yogyakarta Rectorate. This meeting marks a strategic step for ISI Yogyakarta in strengthening its international network, particularly in developing cooperation in arts education, research, community service, and cross-border academic and cultural exchange.
A delegation from Guangxi Arts University, led by Xie Renmin, Ph.D., Professor and Vice President of Guangxi Arts University, responsible for development planning, international affairs, education and teaching, student admissions, and the development of artistic disciplines, was present. Also in attendance were Zhong Jie, Associate Professor and Head of the International Program at the Center for International Education and Exchange, and Li Tiansheng, Ph.D., Lecturer, International Coordinator for the University President, and full-time lecturer at the China-ASEAN Institute of Art Education.

From ISI Yogyakarta, the meeting was attended by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, S.Sn., M.Sn., Vice Rector I, Vice Rector III, the deans from the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design (FSRD), the Faculty of Recording Media Arts (FSMR), and the Faculty of Performing Arts (FSP), Vice Dean III of FSRD, and a lecturer from the Music Study Program, Dr. Asep Hidayat, M.Ed.
The meeting between ISI Yogyakarta and Guangxi Arts University was held to sign a cooperation agreement in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, covering education, research, and community service. This cooperation is expected to be an entry point for developing collaborative programs, ranging from joint learning, student and lecturer exchanges, art research, creative works, to international cultural activities.
In his remarks, the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, S.Sn., M.Sn., extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Guangxi Arts University. He emphasized that the collaboration serves as an important space to strengthen the academic and artistic relationship between the two art higher education institutions.
“We warmly welcome the delegation from Guangxi Arts University to ISI Yogyakarta. This cooperation is an important opportunity to build collaboration in learning, as well as to open up broader opportunities for other cooperation in the arts. ISI Yogyakarta is always open to collaborations that can strengthen education, creation, research, and cultural exchange,” said the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Meanwhile, Xie Renmin, Vice President of Guangxi Arts University and head of the delegation, welcomed the cooperation with ISI Yogyakarta. According to him, this partnership holds significant importance in expanding relations between art universities, especially in the areas of international student affairs and learning development.
“We warmly welcome cooperation with ISI Yogyakarta, especially in strengthening international student affairs and learning development. We hope this cooperation can open avenues for academic exchange, expand students” learning experiences, and encourage mutually enriching artistic and cultural collaborations between Guangxi Arts University and ISI Yogyakarta," said Xie Renmin.
Guangxi Arts University is an art institution located in Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. Established in 1938, Guangxi Arts University is known as a higher education institution for the arts with local characteristics and an international orientation. The campus houses various art fields, including music, dance, film, television and media, fine arts, design, Chinese painting, humanities, architectural art, sculpture, art education, continuing education, and international education.
In its international development, Guangxi Arts University is also actively building cooperative relationships and cultural exchanges with various institutions from a number of countries and regions. The university is noted for playing a significant role in the China–ASEAN arts network, including as one of the initiators of the ASEAN–China Arts University Alliance. This position strengthens the relevance of Guangxi Arts University's cooperation with ISI Yogyakarta, particularly in expanding the scope of artistic, educational, research, and cultural dialogue between Indonesia, China, and the Asian region.

The presence of Guangxi Arts University is considered highly relevant to the development direction of ISI Yogyakarta as an arts higher education institution continually expanding its global network. The academic backgrounds of the Guangxi Arts University delegation, encompassing intangible cultural heritage, cultural industries, modern literature, cultural studies, creative industries, arts management, and the internationalization of higher education, open up avenues for strategic collaboration with the scientific fields and artistic practices developed at ISI Yogyakarta.
After the meeting agenda and signing of cooperation, the activities continued with a campus visit to three faculties within ISI Yogyakarta. The delegation from Guangxi Arts University visited several studios, practice rooms, and galleries at FSRD, FSP, and FSMR to directly observe the art learning ecosystem, academic facilities, and the creative process at ISI Yogyakarta.


This visit was not just a ceremonial agenda, but also served as a space to introduce ISI Yogyakarta's academic and artistic potential to international partners. Through visits to the faculties, the Guangxi Arts University delegation gained an overview of ISI Yogyakarta's strengths in fine arts and design, performing arts, and recorded media arts.
Through this partnership agreement, ISI Yogyakarta reaffirms its commitment to continuously build productive, sustainable, and impactful international partnerships. The collaboration with Guangxi Arts University is expected to strengthen ISI Yogyakarta's position as a globally competitive art higher education institution, while also serving as a bridge for dialogue in art, education, and culture between Indonesia and China.
