ISI Yogyakarta Introduces the World of Art Conservation through RE:VIVE Exhibition & Open House

Yogyakarta, May 10, 2026 — The Art Conservation Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta is holding RE:VIVE: Art Conservation Exhibition & Open House with the theme “Caring for the Past, Saving the Future” on May 12–13, 2026, at the R.J. Katamsi Gallery, 3rd floor, ISI Yogyakarta. This event is open to the public and will run from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Western Indonesian Time.

This activity serves as an educational space and an academic promotion to introduce the role of art conservation in preserving artworks, archives, and cultural heritage so they can continue to be studied and enjoyed by future generations. Through exhibitions, academic demonstrations, and open experiences behind the conservation laboratory, visitors are invited to get to know the processes of treatment, preservation, and restoration of artworks more closely.

The exhibition showcases the work and potential of students from the Art Conservation Study Program across various specializations, including painting conservation, paper and archives, wood, stone and ceramics, and textiles. Additionally, the best works from several courses are presented, such as Reproduction Techniques, Organic Chemistry, Cultural Heritage Preservation, and Nirmana.

Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, S.Sn., M.Sn., stated that this activity demonstrates ISI Yogyakarta's strength as an art higher education institution that not only produces works but also possesses scholarly concern for the sustainability of cultural heritage.

“Art conservation plays a strategic role in preserving cultural memory. Artworks can suffer material damage, but the knowledge, values, and stories behind them must be continuously saved. Through this activity, ISI Yogyakarta affirms its commitment to developing impactful art education that is knowledge-based and relevant to the needs of cultural preservation,” said the Rector.

RE:VIVE also serves as a means for the public, prospective students, students, art communities, and cultural observers to understand the field of art conservation as a discipline that combines art, science, technical skills, and historical awareness. This activity demonstrates that conservation is not merely about repairing objects, but also about preserving knowledge, documentation, identity, and cultural sustainability.

With the organization of this event, ISI Yogyakarta further strengthens its position as an art higher education institution that plays an active role in the development of art science, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the provision of open and inspiring public education spaces.
