Yogyakarta, May 1, 2026 — The Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta is holding a farewell event for Professor Dr. I Wayan Dana, S.St., M.Hum. as a form of respect for his dedication, service, and contributions to the world of performing arts, especially dance.
The event titled “Weaving Movement, Dancing Eras” will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 9:30 AM WIB until completion, at the Concert Hall of ISI Yogyakarta. This activity serves as a moment to appreciate the long journey of Prof. Dr. I Wayan Dana as an academic, artist, thinker, and a figure who has played a role in the development of dance and culture.
This retirement event was organized through cross-unit collaboration, namely the Undergraduate Program in Dance Art of the Faculty of Performing Arts, the Undergraduate Program in Art Management of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, and the Postgraduate Program of ISI Yogyakarta. This synergy reflects the collective appreciation of the academic community of ISI Yogyakarta for Prof. I Wayan Dana's contributions to building the ecosystem of art, education, and cultural studies.
More than just a marker of the end of an academic term, this event serves as a space for reflection on the creative and intellectual footprint of Prof. Dr. I Wayan Dana. Throughout his academic and artistic journey, he has united artistic practice, education, research, and cultural values in a single breath of continuous dedication.
The event program was filled with dance performances involving three groups of performers: Tari Sekar Pudyastuti, Tari Topeng Penglembar Keras, and Tari Janger Abhinaya. In addition, Prof. I Wayan Dana also performed a dance live as an artistic reflection of his creative journey.
On the same occasion, a book titled “Weaving Movement, Dancing the Era: A Tribute to 70 Years of Prof. Dr. I Wayan Dana, S.St., M.Hum.” was also launched. The book contains writings from 44 authors from various backgrounds who offer perspectives, appreciation, and thoughts on Prof. I Wayan Dana's career. In addition to the book, the event also marked the launch of the Annotated Catalog of I Wayan Dana.
Through this event, ISI Yogyakarta emphasizes the importance of appreciating academic figures and artists who have made real contributions to the development of Indonesian performing arts. The retirement ceremony for Prof. Dr. I Wayan Dana is expected to be a space for appreciation, reflection, and inspiration for the next generation of artists and academics to continue developing performing arts rooted in cultural values and remaining relevant with the times.
