Yogyakarta, March 13, 2026 - Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta re-affirmed its position as a center for the development of art thought through the handover of a book grant entitled “Rest Area: Aesthetic Melting Point, 45 Years of Essays (1980-2025)” by Suwarno Wisetrotomo to the Head of the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) ISI Yogyakarta.
The submission of the book is an important momentum for strengthening the intellectual tradition in the art academic environment, especially in enriching references to aesthetic thinking and art criticism for students, lecturers, and researchers at the largest art campus in Indonesia.
Books Rest Area: Aesthetic Melting Point is a collection of essays written by Suwarno Wisetrotomo over four decades. The writings record the author's long journey of thought and critical reflection in reading the development of Indonesian art, ranging from the dynamics of artistic practice, shifting aesthetic discourses, to the relationship between art, culture and society.
The presence of this book in the Department of Fine Arts FSRD ISI Yogyakarta is expected to be an important source of reading for the academic community. In addition to enriching art literature, this book also opens a space for intellectual dialogue on various aesthetic issues that develop in contemporary art practice.
The Chairperson of the Fine Arts Department of FSRD ISI Yogyakarta expressed his appreciation for the book grant. According to him, Suwarno Wisetrotomo's work has an important value in building students' critical perspective on the development of art.
“This book not only records the journey of thought for decades, but also becomes an important reference in understanding how art discourse develops in Indonesia. Its presence will be very beneficial for the learning process and the development of art studies on campus,” he said.
