Jakarta - Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta student Diva Aurel performs a music composition entitled Rantau di Rintik in the Anugerah Diktisaintek 2025 event organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), Friday (19/12), at Graha Diktisaintek, Building D, 2nd Floor, Jakarta.
The performance was the world premiere of Rantau di Rintik in public, as well as marking ISI Yogyakarta's active participation in a national forum that brings together higher education stakeholders, higher education service institutions, and strategic partners from various sectors.
Rantau di Rintik is an ethnic music composition that combines traditional Minangkabau and Sumatran instruments, namely talempong, sampelong, and serunai, with vocal preparations and contemporary musical structures. This work presents a soundscape that reflects the collective experience of the community after natural disasters, especially in the Sumatra region.
Diva Aurel, a student of the Ethnomusicology Study Program, Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta, explained that the composition was born from social sensitivity and personal reflection on disaster events that have a wide impact on people's lives.
“This music composition was inspired by the natural disaster that befell our brothers and sisters in Sumatra. I wanted to depict not only the disaster, but also the aftermath-when the water recedes, but the memories, wounds, and efforts to rise up are still pulsating,” says Diva Aurel.
According to him, Rantau di Rintik is composed as transitional phase music, depicting the shift from chaos to recovery. The repetitive clanging of the talempong represents the lingering pulse of life, the whistling of the sampong brings a quiet and contemplative feel, while the warbling of the serunai symbolizes both lamentation and a cry of hope.
The performance received the attention of the audience of Anugerah Diktisaintek 2025, a national agenda that aims to give appreciation to universities, higher education service institutions (LLDikti), education personnel, media, journalists, and partners who have contributed significantly in supporting the Diktisaintek Impact program over the past year.

The Diktisaintek 2025 Award itself was attended by leaders of public and private universities, leaders of LLDikti from all over Indonesia, and various partner institutions. The series of events took place since 13.00 WIB and included awards in various fields, ranging from science, research and service, higher education, to public relations and media.
Participation of works Rantau di Rintik This national forum shows how the practice of art and ethnomusicology can act as a medium for social reflection as well as cultural communication in the public sphere. Art is not only positioned as an aesthetic performance, but also as a means of building empathy, activating collective memory, and articulating post-disaster hopes.
For ISI Yogyakarta, this performance is clear evidence of the institution's commitment to encouraging students to respond to social issues through the creation of artworks that are contextual, rooted in tradition, and relevant to the dynamics of contemporary society. The presence of ISI Yogyakarta students on the national stage of Anugerah Diktisaintek also emphasizes the role of arts education in Indonesia's higher education ecosystem.
Via Rantau di Rintik, ISI Yogyakarta reaffirms that art has the power to live as a space for reflection, recovery, and transformation-a language that is able to embrace grief, nurture memory, and open the possibility of the birth of new harmony from every ruin.
