DESMAYA "re:SKIN" Visual Design Exhibition

The development of the world of visual design today is not only limited to aesthetic issues, but also becomes part of global social, cultural, economic and technological dynamics. Visual design is present as a medium of communication that is able to convey messages, build identities, and create new experiences in human interaction with their environment. In this fast-paced era, design is no longer only seen as a product complement, but as one of the main factors that determine the value, attractiveness, and sustainability of a work or product in the eyes of society.

The D-4 Media Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta sees the importance of having a space for students to practice, process, as well as test the relevance of their ideas and works in a wider realm. The exhibition is one of the strategic platforms that not only displays creative work, but also connects students with a more heterogeneous audience, both from academics, industry practitioners, and the general public. Through the exhibition process, students are also trained to present their work professionally, hone their confidence, and foster critical skills in responding to various contemporary design issues.

International exhibition DESMAYA "re:SKIN" Visual Design Exhibition comes with the spirit of bringing creative dialog across borders. Concept "re:SKIN" interpreted as an attempt to reinterpret the surface (skin) of an object or product as a medium of expression. The surface-be it packaging, external appearance, or visual identity-is the first part that interacts with the audience. By responding to or redesigning this surface, students are invited not only to create visually, but also to think critically about the meaning, function, and social and cultural impact of the work they produce.

This activity involved participants from ISI Yogyakarta, various national universities, and international campuses. With cross-country participation, this exhibition became an arena for the exchange of diverse ideas, methods, and aesthetics. This is in line with the spirit of higher education in art which is not only oriented towards the creation of works, but also the development of academic and cultural networks at the global level.

In addition, this exhibition is expected to be a real representation of ISI Yogyakarta's vision as an art education institution that is open, collaborative, and innovative in responding to the times. The presence of international students will enrich cross-cultural experiences, encourage creative dialogue, and broaden students' horizons in seeing design as a universal and contextual discipline.

Thus, DESMAYA "re:SKIN" International Visual Design Exhibition not only serves as a showcase for works, but also as a creative laboratory, appreciation space, and discussion arena that will bring academic, cultural, and professional benefits to all participants and visitors.
