ISI Yogyakarta signs the Deed of Establishment of the Consortium of Higher Education for Creative Economy (KPT-Ekraf)

ISI Yogyakarta, October 13, 2025 . Eight universities officially signed the Deed of Establishment of the Consortium of Creative Economy Universities (KPT-Ekraf) at the University of Indonesia (UI), Depok, on October 13, 2025. The signing was followed by the first National Working Meeting which took place on October 12-13, 2025, under the coordination of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf). This signing marks a new chapter in the connection between universities and the national creative industry.

This activity is the culmination of a long process of initiating the formation of KPT-Ekraf, which began in January 2025. The consortium consists of eight founding universities, namely Universitas Indonesia (UI), Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar), LaSalle College, Telkom University (Tel-U), President University, and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) which officially joined in May 2025. The consortium acts as a national academic network committed to developing education, research and innovation in the creative economy.

Since the initial meeting in Jakarta facilitated by Kemenparekraf, the founders agreed to build a cross-field network between art, design, technology and business. In April 2025, ISI Yogyakarta hosted the event. Meeting for drafting bylaws which resulted in the consortium's management structure. After the official declaration at the Ministry of Creative Economy, the legal name "Indonesian Creative Economy Education Manager" was submitted to the notary, with the public name "Konsorsium Perguruan Tinggi Ekraf (KPT-Ekraf)" still used for institutional communication.

The signing of the deed of establishment at UI, attended by the rectors and representatives of the eight member universities, marked the legal authorization as well as the beginning of the implementation of the national collaboration agenda.

The working meeting at UI resulted in various strategic program agreements. The year 2025 will focus on synergizing activities with Mind Weave 2025 which will be held at Telkom University, Bandung, on November 11-12, 2025. KPT-Ekraf will officially launch the consortium through Creative Economy Vision and Mission Talkshow, presenting the exhibition Wastra Nusantara, and Workshop on Recycling Paper Waste into Batik Stamp facilitated by Dr. Arif Suharson, M.Sn from ISI Yogyakarta.

In addition to introducing environmentally friendly innovations, this activity is expected to be a forum for the publication of research and student creativity in the fields of craft and fashion based on local wisdom. ISI Yogyakarta, which has a craft and batik fashion design department, will play an active role in the exhibition of research results, involving lecturers and students.

In 2026 the consortium is preparing a major national agenda including The 1st Creative Consortium Summit 2026 which will be held at the Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ). National Creative Innovation Challenge, a national competition for students in four priority subsectors (craft & fashion, games & apps, film & animation, and digital media); Creative Teaching Forum, an exchange of innovative teaching methods among Indonesian creative lecturers; Creative Knowledge & Data Hub, a national digital platform for sharing research, publications, and innovation ideas among member universities.

Kemenparekraf welcomes the formation of this consortium as a concrete step to strengthen the national creative economy ecosystem based on higher education. Through cross-campus collaboration, innovations that are globally competitive but firmly rooted in Indonesian culture and local wisdom are expected to be born.

With a long-term vision until 2030, KPT-Ekraf is expected to be the driving force for the development of Indonesia's research, innovation and creative talents towards a sustainable, inclusive and knowledge-based creative industry ecosystem.
