Aruman, S.Sn., M.A., a lecturer in the Department of Craft, Faculty of Arts and Design, ISI Yogyakarta won first place in the Segoro Amarto batik motif design competition held by the Yogyakarta City Government. The award was given directly by the Mayor of Yogyakarta, Hasto Wardoyo, on May 22, 2025 at the National Industrial Design Center. The awarding coincided with the launch of the new Segoro Amarto batik motif to the public.
According to the Mayor of Yogyakarta, the new motif of Segoro Amarto batik is a transformation of existing batik motifs with design refreshment, but without leaving the original philosophical meaning. The new motif of Batik Segoro Amarto reflects the Peksi Bulu 10 motif as a sign of the times made in the era of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X which means to continue to progress and develop. The Cepek papat or sedulur papat motif becomes a human protector in the womb until the end. In addition, the Javanese tamarind motif which means sinom and sengsem, namely the spirit of youth and always fun, the canting motif as the World Batik City, and the ceplok belah papat motif symbolize water as a source of life and representation of segara amarta.
