A delegation from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) visited ISI Yogyakarta on Monday, April 28, 2025. The KOICA delegation consisted of Prof. Ho Sang KANG (PM of KOICA-ICAB, Institutes of Green Bio Science and Technology, Seoul National University), Prof. Tae Sub PARK (Professor, Graduate School of International Agricultural Technology, Seoul National University) and Hyo Je JANG (M&E Expert, Korea). The delegation was received by the Rector and the ISI Yogyakarta Leadership in Meeting Room 1 of the ISI Yogyakarta Rectorate Building.
The visit was a strategic first step in exploring the potential for international cooperation in arts and culture between Indonesia and South Korea. During the visit, KOICA expressed its commitment to expand support to higher education institutions in the arts through various schemes of development cooperation programs, including scholarships, training, and institutional capacity building.
ISI Yogyakarta as a center of excellence in art education, creation, and study, offers various potential collaborations that are in line with KOICA's mandate, especially in encouraging cultural exchange, developing social impact art research, and strengthening international academic networks. Some of the cooperation opportunities identified include:
- Providing scholarships for master's program for lecturers or education staff of ISI Yogyakarta to KOICA partner universities in South Korea in the field of arts and culture.
- Lecturer and researcher exchange program between ISI Yogyakarta and art institutions in South Korea to encourage collaboration in cross-cultural education and research.
- Funding support for collaborative research in the arts, which addresses global issues such as cultural sustainability, art and technology, and cultural diplomacy.
Organizing international workshops or training with KOICA by involving artists, researchers, and lecturers from both countries.
Through the initiation of this collaboration, ISI Yogyakarta hopes to become an active partner of KOICA in developing inclusive and sustainable arts-based development programs, as well as strengthening the role of art as a bridge of diplomacy and knowledge exchange between nations.
