The dynamics of education in higher education are increasingly dynamic. In addition to being required to continuously improve the quality of learning, universities are also encouraged to bring learning experiences closer to the industrial world. Responding to this, the Photography Study Program (Prodi), Department of Photography, Faculty of Recording Media Arts (FSMR), Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, pioneered an international standard computer and digital print laboratory. This laboratory is designed to be used for learning and practicing photo and print processing with high quality. To support this, all computers in this laboratory are equipped with officially licensed photo processing software.
In collaboration with PT Kuala Pangan and D'Arno Galerry, the photography study program received a grant in the form of 16 units of personal computers (PC) 24-inc iMac with Retina 4.5K Display and one unit of EPSON STYLUS PRO 9900 printer. Head of the Photography Department, FSMR, ISI Yogyakarta, Novan Jemmi Andrea stated that the Photography Study Program submitted a proposal to design a digital printing laboratory to PT Kuala Pangan, which was welcomed by providing computer grant assistance. In addition, to support the design, D'Arno Galerry also supported by donating a printer unit. The whole equipment will be used to start the development of learning and practice of photo printing as the excellence of this study program.
The Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. emphasized that to further strengthen the position of the Photography Study Program, FSMR, ISI Yogyakarta, as an international standard Photography Study Program, it must begin by making progressive initiatives related to improving the quality of education that affects the quality of its graduates. This laboratory and digital printing is one of the differentiators and at the same time an advantage, because students studying in this study program will certainly have complete knowledge and skills from upstream to downstream, from photo production to photo printing. Besides. The presence of this laboratory will become a pilot project for shared facilities throughout Yogyakarta through micro-credential programs for various groups.
Director of PT Kuala Pangan who is also the owner of D'Arno Galerry, Suherry Arno, added that this grant is a real effort by the company and its gallery to support the advancement of photography education. Students who study photography should have a complete ability on the majority of aspects of photography itself. Theoretical and conceptual knowledge is very important, and to strengthen it, it must be accompanied by real practice using quality equipment. The hope is that good photographs can be printed with excellent results, making them suitable and worthy to be exhibited in international exhibitions and collected as high quality and valuable art objects.
