Sustainable Palm Oil Motifs Lead Craft Lecturer to Win National Palm Oil Batik Design Competition 2024

Lecturer of the Craft Study Program (Prodi), FSRD ISI Yogyakarta, Aruman, S.Sn., M.A. won third place in the 2024 National Palm Batik Design Competition. The announcement of the batik design competition was made by the Acting Mayor of Yogyakarta, Sugeng Pranoto, on Thursday, August 5, 2024 at Taman Pintar Yogyakarta. The 2024 National Palm Batik Design Competition was organized by Dekranasda Kota Yogyakarta together with CV Smart Batik Indonesia and supported by the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency - BPDPKS. The competition was organized as an effort to find new motifs so as to increase the selling value of batik and part of batik preservation.

In the 2024 National Sawit Batik Design Competition, Aruman, S.Sn., M.A. submitted a Sawit Lestari batik motif design. According to Aruman, S.Sn., M.A. Sawit Lestari is a batik motif created by taking the basic idea of the palm tree as a producer of various products, including palm oil. This motif was created by depicting the elements of the palm tree from the trunk, leaves, flowers, fruit, seeds, and bulk cooking oil. The elements are arranged symmetrically, repeating right and left. Designed for batik tulis combination stamp.

The motif of Batik Sawit Lestari succeeded in delivering Aruman, S.Sn., M.A. to get the third best rank in this national level batik competition. Hopefully the achievements obtained by Aruman, S.Sn., M.A. can inspire the lecturers and academic community of ISI Yogyakarta.
