The Department of Dance, Faculty of Performing Arts, Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta held a workshop entitled "Designing Student Field Activities in the MBKM Program" at the Grand Zuri Hotel. This event is part of an effort to improve the quality of education and student skills through relevant and contextual field activities. The workshop was held on July 18, 2024 at Grand Zuri Hotel. The event was attended by lecturers, students, art practitioners, as well as representatives from art and cultural communities. The main objective of this event was to formulate field activities that can provide practical and in-depth experience for students in the field of dance guna.
The event presented several expert speakers who provided views and insights on the importance of field activities. The speakers were the Dayak Customary Council, the Founder of Sanggar Sekar Dewata (I Ketut Gede Bandesa, S.Sn), the Head of the Situbondo Regency Education and Culture Office (Hj. Siti Aisyah, S.H., M.Si.), and the Mangunan Village Head (Aris Purwanto).
Each resource person presented material about the programs and activities in each of them, then continued with a question and answer session related to the concept, form, and technical overview of MBKM activities that will be carried out by Dance Department students. The Dayak Customary Council explained that some of the activities in the field of cultural arts carried out by the Dayak Customary Council are traditional dance documentation and archives, workshops and training, Dayak traditional festivals, and development of the tumbang anoi traditional village. Students of the Dance Department will carry out MBKM internship activities at the Daya Customary Council. I Ketut Gede Bandesa explained about the activities of Sekar Dewata studio which focuses on inclusive art education for people with disabilities, such as dance training and art performances. It is in this studio that Dance Department students will conduct research MBKM activities that focus on the topic of dance and inclusivity. Ms. Siti Aisyah explained about the Situbondo Ethnic Festival and several other arts in Situbondo that can be a field for students to carry out activities. At the Situbondo Education and Culture Office, Dance students will carry out MBKM internship activities. Furthermore, Lurah Mangunan talked about the Abhinaya Reksa Buana Festival, which this festival is one of the activities whose implementation is assisted by dance students. In addition, the discussion with Lurah Mangunan also talked about the potential of arts and culture in Mangunan Village. In Mangunan Village, Dance Department students will carry out MBKM Membangun Desa activities.
The workshop not only included presentations, but also included panel discussions and interactive group discussion sessions. In the panel discussion, the participants had a direct dialog with the speakers regarding the design of meaningful field activities for dance students in general. On the other hand, group discussion sessions with each partner focused on technical matters in the implementation of field activities. Participants were divided into small groups and discussed in detail about the design of activities formulated in document format, including a special Semester Learning Plan for MBKM activity courses. Through this discussion, learning outcomes with partners in MBKM activities are generated, so that when the activity is completed, value recognition can be structured.
Through this activity, the study program and partners will map the problems in each partner. Customary problems in the Dayak environment focus on maintaining norms, values, morals, ethics, tolerance, culture in community life. This opens up opportunities to offer solutions to social and environmental problems through art. Sekar Dewata Dance Studio has dance learning activities for children with disabilities, so field activities are designed for inclusive dance creation models. The Situbondo Cultural Office has the Situbondo Ethnic Festival (SEF) which is participated by the dance study program. Activities with the Mangunan village government will be discussed and students will be deployed to build the village. The result of this activity is a student field activity design document.
As a follow-up, the Dance Department of the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta always coordinates with MBKM supervisors and partners to prepare for student deployment. Therefore, after the workshop entitled "Designing Student Field Activities in the MBKM Program", it is hoped that this activity will become an important milestone in improving the quality of dance education in Indonesia and preparing students to become creative and innovative artists in the future.
