The Faculty of Recording Media Arts ISI Yogyakarta in collaboration with the Indonesian Photography Society, SOFIA and Sewon Photography Week # 10 organized the Indonesian Photography Society Talk with the title "A Gust Photo-Philia, Photography in the Art Museum". The Indonesian Photography Society Talk will be held online through the Zoom Meeting application on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 19.00 WIB. The talk will feature a guest speaker from the School of Art and Design, Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, University of Sunderland, Dr. Alexandra Mochovi, SFHEA. The event will be opened by Sigit Pramono S. as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Photographic Society and guided by moderator Adya Arsita from Public Relations of the Faculty of Recording Media Arts ISI Yogyakarta.
This talk will explore stories about the position of contemporary photography in major European and American art institutions. It will be shown how photography has changed its position and standing in art museums as a consequence of the changing status and practice of photographic works in contemporary art from the 1960s, with implications for the agendas, opportunities, and limitations of museum institutions. 'Photography' seen as a standardized term is interpreted differently by existing institutions. So, where and how is photography positioned in museums today? In the era of 'We are all photographers' and what is its future?.
Students and the public who are interested in participating in this talk can access the link bit.ly/zoom-fsmr-300. The zoom room will open at 6.30 pm. Hopefully, this event will be able to provide a lot of knowledge about the current position of museum photography.
